Classroom Discipline Plan September 2011

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Please review the Classroom Discipline Plan that will be in effect during the school year:
Rules:
1.Speak and act kindly 2. Make our school neat and clean 3.Always listen with respect
4. Respect each other’s space 5. Take time to walk quietly in the hall
6.Always use manners by saying, “Please, thank you, excuse me, Mr./ Mrs./ Ms.” 7. Always tell the truth.

Consequences for Misbehavior:
“Retraining”

At the beginning of each school year and with each new activity throughout the school year, students are given clear directions. Students are to watch the teacher model these directions and are then asked to practice the required behavior/task. The next time this behavior or task is required, students are expected to practice the learned behavior. If the student chooses not to practice the expected behavior, but instead acts out in disrespectful behaviors, he will be handed a “retraining” card. This card will require that student to show up at the next appropriate recess in order to practice the expected behavior until he proves his understanding of the expected behavior to the teacher/ administrator on duty. Students will then be asked to write a letter home explaining what happened in school that day. Parents/ guardians are asked to sign and return this letter the following school day.
Incentives:
Smart Dollars:
If I see a student do an act of kindness that shows he/she is aware of our SMART rules, I will give that student “smart dollars” to collect and use at the end of each month at the school store.
Prizes:
Students may receive a prize for their individual behavior, as well as for good grades or “game” winners. This is also done at the discretion of the teacher. Using manners is an excellent way for students to receive a prize from the treasure box. I am always looking to catch students do something kind!
Marbles:
When the entire class cooperates together in order to follow directions they will be rewarded. Marbles will be taken from their original container and placed into a glass jar. Marbles will be earned if excellent behavior is noted by the homeroom teacher including smooth transitions and/ or a compliment is given to the class by another teacher/ substitute teacher.
When the jar is filled with 100 marbles, I provide the students with a small treat which may include a healthy treat, lunch with the teacher, or extra recess.
I hope that we can work together. I will keep you informed about your child’s progress in my class and I hope that you stay in contact with me regarding your child’s education. We, as a class, have reviewed these procedures numerous times, but I ask that you look over it and review it again with him/her before signing and returning this form below.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Raygor
