A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and in loving memory of Carol Z. King.

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King was the devoted wife of Nick King, the loving mother of Eric King and Byron King, the cherished daughter of Loretta Zurkuhlen, and the beloved sister of Joyce Regan, Mary Kay Weaver, Paul Zurkuhlen and Hugh Zurkuhlen; and

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King was born in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, attended Sacred Heart Academy and Spalding College, and was a certified psychiatric nurse; and

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King worked as a nurse for Maryhurst School, previously having been employed with the Visiting Nurses Association, St. Joseph Infirmary, Our Lady of Peace, and several government agencies; and

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King was a member of the American Association of University Women, Women's Political Caucus, American Nurses Association, Kentucky Nurses Association, and Cathedral of the Assumption; and

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King was a loving, compassionate, and giving soul who wanted to make a tangible difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and, when given the opportunity, realized her dream of starting a program which gives, to the disadvantaged, hope that things can be different and which conveys to them that somebody believes in them; and

WHEREAS, Carol Z. King was the consummate philanthropist and co-founder of the King Foundation for Social Justice, a foundation with specific goals of granting education scholarships; and

WHEREAS, the King Foundation for Social Justice administers Project Vision, a program that has sponsored 38 sixth-grade students from low-income families for free college education, and the Carol Zurkuhlen King Scholarship Fund, a program that will send 15 girls over three years to Sacred Heart Academy, then to college, and through graduate school; and

WHEREAS, the success of the King Foundation for Social Justice, Project Vision, and the Carol Zurkuhlen King Scholarship Fund was directly attributable to Carol Z. King, who met with the students weekly, toured college campuses, and volunteered for local charities with them, and provided love, affection, attention, and concern; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Carol Z. King will leave a void in the hearts of relatives, friends, and beneficiaries that will be difficult to fill;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow and extends its most heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Nick King and his family, and the relatives of Carol Z. King.

Section 2. That when the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in memory, honor, and tribute to Carol Z. King.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Senate Resolution to Nick King, 1700 Sulgrave, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.
