Animal Farm News Reporting: Snowball’s Expulsion
Directions: Factually recount the events of Snowball’s expulsion as they happened in the barn. Begin with the gathering for the Sunday Meeting and Snowball’s speech and end with Napoleon’s announcement that eliminates the animals’ right to vote or debate. Include the Who, What, When, Where, and Why of the story while paying attention to correct newspaper article format, including a title, headline, a byline, a dateline, and an attention-grabbing lead.
For this assignment, you will choose the perspective to write from, so there will be bias in your writing. If you write from Snowball’s perspective, or one that you believe would support him, your news article will take on the tone of one who supports Snowball being expelled from Animal Farm. Likewise, if you choose to write from one who supports Napoleon, the news article will take on that tone.
*Extra Credit Opportunity*
You may receive up to five extra credit points on this assignment by adding creative news elements to your article. One example might be an advertisement for Windmill Repair Service, a comic, or a relevant coupon. Each added element is worth one point with a maximum of five.
This sheet must be stapled to the top of your retelling rough draft and will be used in the peer-evaluation.
