Code of Athletic Behavior Form

To be a member of an athletic team is a privilege, not a right. It requires a large commitment on the part of each athlete and involves maintaining a high academic standing, displaying good sportsmanship, and respect for self, community and property. Student athletes are expected to represent Hunter with dignity and respect – in school and at all visited facilities. Athletes should strive to perform to the best of his or her athletic and academic potential.

In addition to the rules established by the PSAL ( and the Hunter High School Discipline Code, Student-athletes will be held to the following standards:

SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Student will not use/possess/distribute/share or be in the company of:

  • Tobacco – any form including cigarettes and chewing tobacco
  • Alcohol – including beer, wine, liquor
  • Drugs – prescription or non-prescription; legal or illegal

This expectation extends beyond the school day and school property.

PROCEDURES

If it is suspected or reported that a violation has occurred:

  • The athlete, coach, and athletic director will meet to review the reported incident and the agreement that was signed. Parents will be required to attend this meeting before the athlete is reinstated to participate.

If it is determined that a violation has occurred:

  • The athlete will be referred to a Drug & Alcohol Awareness Program and will be required to complete the program before returning to the team.
  • Further consequences:
  • 1st Violation:
  • The athlete will be suspended from participation for two weeks and 3-5 athletic competitions (determined by sport). During this time, the athlete must attend every practice session and is required to be at all competitions (NOT in uniform). If the student is suspended from school, the team suspension will begin when the athlete officially returns to school.
  • If an athlete fails to complete any part of the agreement, the athlete will be dismissed from the team for the remainder of the season.
  • The athlete will be ineligible for any post-season awards, recognition and excluded from being a team captain.
  • 2nd Violation:
  • The athlete will be removed from participation in all athletics for the remainder of that season.
  • 3rd Violation:
  • The athlete will be banned from participation in all athletics for the remaining time at Hunter High School.

STUDENT-ATHLETE CODE OF BEHAVIOR:

In order to participate in any tryouts, practices, or competitions (league or non-league), student-athletes:

  • Must submit
  • Medical Form (dated 1 year prior to the END of the season),
  • Parental Permission Form
  • Code of Athletic Behavior Form
  • Must be present in school and attend all assigned classes. School related absences must be excused (in writing) by the administration BEFORE participation.
  • Must participate fully in Physical Education as well as academic classes.
  • Must be free and clear of academic misconduct.
  • Student-athletes must cooperate with teammates, coaches, officials/umpires at all times.
  • Be on time to all classes.
  • Attend all team meetings, practices and competitions. Any conflicts must be discussed with the coach PRIOR to the absence. The coach has the authority to limit play time and/or remove student-athletes from the team for violation of attendance.
  • Must change in the designated areas.
  • All equipment and uniforms on loan to student athletes must be returned at the end of each season. Student-athletes who have not returned any or all of the equipment / uniform (or paid for lost items) will be denied a uniform for subsequent seasons.
  • Hazing, playing abusive tricks on a fellow student, frightening, harassing or subjecting a fellow student to personal indignity are grounds for immediate dismissal.

Failure to comply with any established rules are grounds for suspension and/or removal from the team by the Coach, Athletic Director and/or Principal.
