1.  List 3 commonly used electronic products that can be defined as a computer; list their input devices, output devices and storage devices; then find out which of the 8 categories of computers these products belong to (Personal Computers, Mobile Computers and
Mobile Devices, Game Consoles, Servers, Mainframes, Supercomputers or Embedded Computers) (10 pts)

2.  List the functional and physical differences between an USB flash storage drive, a hard disk, and a memory chip. (10 pts)

3.  There are 5 advantages of using computers: Speed, Reliability, Consistency, Storage and Communications. Give one example for each of these advantages to explain how computers can help people in daily, research and business activities. (10 pts)

4.  What are the disadvantages of using computers? (10 pts)

5.  Choose an access provider in U.S; identify whether it is an ISP, OSP or WISP; and then list one of the options (Cable, DSL, WiFi…) it provides to customers for connecting to the internet. (10 pts)

Example: bluesocket (the provider who set up CatChat) is an ISP and it provides Wi-Fi access to the internet.

6.  Consider the URL below, to retrieve a webpage about developing proposal, your browser will send this URL as a request to the server which is hosting GSU web site: (50 pts)

a.  Find out the protocol your browser will use to communicate with the server in this URL.(5 pts)

b.  Find out the domain name of the hosting server; and then address the top level domain.(15 pts)

c.  Find out the path in which the required web page is being stored on that server.(5 pts)

d.  (Extra credit 10pts)Translate the domain name to its associated IP address. You can use some online DNS web service to do this. (Hint: Use search engine such as Google to find one)

e.  Assuming that the associated address of the domain name is 131.96.255.8 (not the real one),

Identify what class of network GSU is assigned (class A, B or C); then list the network address and host address. How many computers can connect to the internet via GSU network simultaneously at most? (25 pts)
