INFORMATION NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS

1.  Date and Place of the Session

The nineteenth session of the Regional Association I (RA I) Tropical Cyclone Committee for the South-West Indian Ocean will take place from 20 to 24 September 2010 at the Nairobi Safari Club (Lilian Towers) Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya.

2.  Entry Formalities

·  Entry visas can be obtained from the Kenya Diplomatic Missions or Consulates in the participants' countries;

·  Where Kenya does not have diplomatic representation, visas are obtainable from the British High Commissions;

·  Where neither Kenya nor Britain has diplomatic representation, the participant(s) should inform the Local Organizing Committee, at the very latest by 31 August 2010 to help with the arrangement for issuance of visas at the Airport in Nairobi.

3.  Health Requirements

No inoculations or vaccinations are required unless you are coming from or passing through contaminated areas. Yellow fever certificates are required for visitors coming from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Angola, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Mauritania, Mali, Nigeria, Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) (Those without certificates are subject to quarantine).

Please also note the following recommendations:

·  Vaccination against typhoid and paratyphoid fever for all visitors to Kenya

·  Malaria prophylaxis

4.  Currency

The currency used in Kenya is the Kenya shilling (KShs.). The current approximate conversion rates (subject to changes with time) with some of the main currencies are as follows:

·  1 US $ - KShs. 80.00

·  1 £ (Sterling Pound) - KShs. 117.00

·  1 Euro - KShs. 97.00

There is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency that may be imported into Kenya. Most banks in Kenya have Bureau de Change services. Banking hours are from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are also many Forex Bureaux, which operate from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Credit cards for payments of hotel and other charges are accepted in most hotels but not in all. One is therefore advised to carry adequate cash for such transactions.

5.  Arrival and Transport Arrangements

Transport from and to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi will be provided by the host country. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) will need advance information on the itinerary (date, flight number and time of arrival and departure) in order to operate the transportation arrangement smoothly.
