MULTIMEDIA PRODUCER (VIDEO/ AUDIO)

JOB DESCRIPTION

CONTEXT

Opera North, established in 1978, is the award winning national opera company in the north of England with a strong reputation for innovation and engagement.

With headquarters in Leeds the Company receives funding to tour across the country. The touring programme (in Yorkshire, the North West, the North East and the East Midlands) places us at the heart of our communities where we are unique in providing this service; no other single performing arts organisation offers the quality, quantity and breadth of opera and musical theatre provided on a regular basis. The Company also tours to other parts of the UK and internationally on an occasional basis.

The Company delivers an eclectic programme of opera performances, orchestral concerts, commissions, collaborations (including ground breaking partnerships with Higher Education), cross art form work and education projects, engaging approximately 230,000 people of all ages each year.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Working within the External Affairs team, to lead on the in-house production of high quality multimedia content (video and audio), in support of marketing and communications objectives around the full spectrum of Opera North’s work.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

§  Manage the production of multimedia content for Opera North’s online channels, to ensure high quality multimedia output which meets Opera North’s communications and marketing needs

§  Identify internal stories and opportunities for creating rich multimedia content by developing relationships across Opera North, ensuring effective internal communication

§  Work with other departments, including Marketing and Press, to plan, schedule and produce video and audio content which builds audience engagement and insight, drives ticket sales, and shapes compelling narratives and messages around the full spectrum of Opera North’s work

§  Deliver all stages of multimedia production from planning to delivery, including content capture, artist and company liaison, interviews, securing permissions and rights/licences, editing.

§  Record and edit audio; film and edit video; and sound mix and colour correct files as needed; supply audio/video files with appropriate naming and compression specs

§  Create trailers from new videos for use on social media channels as teasers, as well as b-roll footage for press use / Electronic Press Kits (EPK).

§  Advise other departments on appropriate external audio / video teams to meet specific needs that cannot be handled in-house

§  Commission work from external suppliers in conjunction with Head of Communications and Digital Manager, manage commissioned video crews and sound engineers, and ensuring output complies with relevant brand, design, editorial and digital asset management guideline

§  Maintain a high level of design consistency and accuracy of information across all video and audio. Ensure the text, tone and visual style of all digital collateral is correct, consistent and in accordance with brand guidelines

§  Manage and maintain audio / video equipment as well as advise on additional purchases for evolving department needs

§  Ensure that multimedia content is accessible, including via the provision of subtitles and captions as needed

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

§  Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in media production or a related field is required

§  Expertise in using the Adobe Suite: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Audacity, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks and After Effects (editing, sound mixing, and animation)

§  Experienced with using camcorders, DSLR Cameras and GoPro’s for video

§  Experienced with using audio recorders, lavalier and studio microphones for audio

§  Experienced in undertaking and editing video/audio interviews

§  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

§  Ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including artists and creatives

§  A fast learner who displays initiative, energy, creativity and innovation

§  Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

§  Resourceful, problem-solver who can work independently

§  Strong interpersonal and communication skills; accessible and approachable with interview

subjects and other contacts

§  Fully IT literate

§  A flexible and positive approach to work

Desirable

§  Passion for the arts and interest in opera/theatre/music in particular

§  Experience with using DSLR Cameras for photography

Terms and Conditions

Salary: £24-27k per annum dependent on experience

Hours of work: Normally 09.30 until 17:30, Mon-Fri

Some evening and weekend work will be required

Normal place of work: Opera North, Leeds

Holiday entitlement: 33 days annually (incl. 8 statutory holidays)
