Edmonton Jewish Hockey League
Ok everyone, hope you had a great summer, but it is getting to be close to that time of year again, the start of the 2010/2011 Edmonton Jewish Hockey League season, and hopefully it will be just as good as last year if not even better. Games this year will be played once again on Sunday nights at Argyll Arena at 7:30 and 9:30 pm.
Due to the Jewish High Holidays, the start of the season will be a little different than years past. We will not be having a rookie skate this year and will instead be having 2 pre-season games whereby teams will be rated to determine how fair they are. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE LEAGUE, ON YOUR REGISTRATION FORM PLEASE IDENTIFY HOW GOOD OF A HOCKEY PLAYER YOU ARE (i.e. HOW MANY YEARS YOU HAVE PLAYED AND AT WHAT LEVEL). The first pre-season game is scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Argyll Arena. Before this game you will be notified by your team captain as to which team you are on.There will be a second pre-season game on Sunday October 10, 2010. The regular season will commence on Sunday October 17/2010 and will conclude on Sunday March 13, 2011. The Playoffs will be the following 4 weeks (March 20, 2011 to April 10, 2011). THERE WILL BE NO GAMES PLAYED ON December 26/2010 due to the Hanukah/Christmas break.
Payment
Registration (including signing the EJHL waiver, and the enclosed Argyll Arena waiver) and payment are due by Friday, September 18, 2009 to qualify for the early bird discount.
There are two options for payment:
1.Early Bird Payment of $475.00 (for skaters) must be made in full by September 22, 2010. (GOALIES Pay $250.00)
2.Payment of $525.00 will be accepted after September 22, 2010, but no later that Monday, September 27, 2010. (GOALIES Pay $300.00)
The teams will then be made by myself and the rest of the EJHL board as fairly as possible before the first pre-season game.
**All players who have their forms and payment submitted by the September 22, 2010 deadline will have their names entered in 2 separate draws for either a signed Oilers jersey of any current Oiler, OR 2 lower level tickets to any Oilers game of the winning persons choosing**
Post-dated cheques will not be accepted dated after the early bird deadline. Players will not be put on teams unless they have submitted their registration form and paid in full by September 27, 2010.
The Edmonton Jewish Hockey League is trying to keep your fees to a minimum.
Therefore we kept the fees the same as last year and in order to subsidize the rising costs of ice time at Argyll Arena, as well as referee costs, and other various costs, we are again looking at various outside sponsors to help support the league. This method proved to be very effective last year, and you can look for the very generous sponsors who made a donation to our league on our website at edmontonjewishsports.com. However, in order for the league to continue to run smoothly, we still require that all registration fees be paid by the deadline of September 27, 2010.
NOTE: Payment for goalies is $250.00, to be paid in full by September 22 , 2010. The first 4 goaltenders to register will be accepted.
The first 72 registrations (with both signed waivers) and money received will be guaranteed a spot in the league. The league operates on a first-come, first-served basis. As demand is high, please be sure to get your form in as soon as possible. The league will open a waiting list for those who are not the first 72 to register. However, to ensure yourself a spot, register early.
In the past, if a team was short players, we had a sub list of which teams could ask players to fill in for them. I am proud to announce that we will continue to do so, however subs must pay a $20 fee to play, this money will be donated to charity. Failure to do so will void that player from subbing in the future until he is paid his dues. If by some chance, teams are unable to find subs from the sub list, friends, coworkers, etc. of players can sub however the same rules will apply regarding fees and also, the sub will have to be approved by the league to ensure fairness.
Attached to this form is a Release that YOU MUST SIGN. IN ORDER TO PLAY AT ARGYLL ARENA, you must swear that you are over 18 YEARS OLD.
The league maintains accounting records. If you owe the league money due to non-payment in past seasons, you will be required to pay all arrears in addition to your registration amount by September 27, 2010 in order to play in the league.
The Edmonton Jewish Hockey League reserves the right to deny application of any individual based on past on and off-ice conduct, or arrears owing to the League.
Team Formats
The teams will be selected by myself and the rest of the EJHL Board, like last year, and will be done so as fairly as possible. Only immediate family will be guaranteed to be on the same team, however requests can be made to play with friends, and we will try to accommodate requests. Team captains will be phoning all players after the teams are made to tell them what team they are on and when they play there first game.
The Board of Directors will be stressing the fun and social aspects of the league. As such, we strive for parity among teams throughout the season. Teams may be shifted and players traded throughout the season in order to balance teams and ensure a fun time for all. This will be avoided at all costs.
Rules
We will be strictly enforcing the rules of the league. Any and all infractions will be dealt with severely. The Edmonton Jewish Hockey League will suspend players if on and off ice conduct warrants a suspension. If you are unsure if you can play within these parameters, please do not register in the league. The EJHL board will deal with situations that are deemed to be not within the parameters of what type of league the Edmonton Jewish Hockey League is all about as fast as possible and there will be consequences for your actions. WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO SUSPEND ANYONE SO PLEASE TREAT OTHER PLAYERS, THE REFS, AND THE TIMEKEEPER WITH RESPECT. Physical and Verbal abuse will not be tolerated in any way.
The new league rulebook will be posted on the website. We encourage every player to download a copy.

A great deal of effort will be made to ensue the accuracy of all info on the website this year, and that it is updated at least once a week. We know you all like to track your stats, so we will do our best to make the website as accurate as possible.

Waiver
I, the undersigned (the “Player”), release the Edmonton Jewish Hockey League (the “EJHL”), its officers, directors, governors, volunteers and employees and any of its members from all liability and waive as against the EJHL all recourses, loss or damages, and assume all risks and dangers incidental to any involvement in the EJHL including my involvement in the EJHL including my participation in any EJHL hockey games and events occurring prior to, during or subsequent to the actual playing of the game.
I hereby release, indemnify and save harmless the EJHL, its officers, directors, governors, volunteers and employees and any of its members from any and all losses, liabilities, claims, demands, causes of action, suits, costs or charges that may be brought whatsoever and howsoever caused whether by their negligence or not, of any nature with respect to any injury or disability to me, or in relation to my death, or in relation to any damage or loss of property, to or caused by me, or for which I am legally responsible.
Furthermore, the Player agrees to be bound by the rules and regulations of the Alberta Amateur Hockey Association, to which the EJHL is a member organization, as well as those established by and for the EJHL whether now or in the future. Also, the Player recognizes that since the EJHL has been established as a non-contact and social league, the Player further specifically agrees that the EJHL will have the right to discipline any Player and member of the EJHL who breaches the rules and regulations governing the operation of the EJHL and agrees to submit to such disciplinary action as the EJHL, in its sole discretion as determined by its Board of Directors, may deem necessary. This includes the suspension or removal of the Player from participation in the EJHL, especially in cases where real or potential threat of bodily harm has been exhibited by the Player, in an effort to better protect all Players from harm or injury. The Player agrees that the decisions of the EJHL in disciplinary matters will be final and in the event of suspension or ejection from the EJHL there will be no refund or other relief granted to the player.
