Aims: To look at sheep and wool
Objectives: To understand the properties of wool, to use senses to establish words that describe wool (by touch and smell of a fleece)
To see the fibres that makes a fleece
Activity: Put animals away, touch and smell of fleece, carding of wool
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· Children given chance to put current knowledge of wool onto paper –e as measure tool at end of course.
· Able to touch real fleece to see its properties.
· Enjoyed experience of carding.
· Interaction with animals.
Negative points:
· Some didn’t like feel of fleece.

11 Thurs / Course Title: Spinning / Date: 6th 7th November
Aims: To see the process of transforming a fleece to yarn
Objectives: To recap on carding method, to have practical experience of different methods of spinning – drop spindle and spinning wheel
Activity: Demo on different methods of spinning, drop spindles, spinning wheel
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· External party gave demo n spinning.
· Able to use carding method learnt in last lesson.
· See different techniques of spinning, but with same result.
· Practical experiences of spinning.
Negative points:
· Frustration arose as spinning wheels kept breaking.
· Not enough spinning wheels, so children getting impatient.

3 / Class size / Course Title: Weaving / Date: 13th 14st November
Aims: To set up and use a weave frame
Objectives: To set up a weave frame, to use the weave frame, to use the yarn that was previously spun, to spin more yarn when needed
Activity: Set up weave frame
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· Children left to work by themselves – make own decisions.
· Able to use yarn from previous lessons.
· Felt sense of achievement as they was weave forming.
Negative points:
· Some frustrated as keep setting weave frame wrong.
· Weave was loose, so not held in frame – frustration.

4 / Class size / Course Title: Tie-dye / Date: 20th 21st November
Aims: To view the process of how wool is dyed
Objectives: To see how dyeing works via tie-dye
Activity: Tie-dye a handkerchief
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· Made own decision as to which tie-dye method to use (fold or stones).
· Worked under own initiative.
· Able to see how yarn is coloured.
· Made something that they can take home – sense of achievement.

5 / Class size / Course Title: Sheep products / Date: 27th 28th November
Aims: To see what products are produced from sheep
Objectives: To look at milking, hands-on practical milking using goats
Activity: Milk goats, feed baby goats
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· Interaction with animals.
· Chance to handle baby animals.
· Had to use feed table to work out amounts to feed each goat.
· Practical experience of milking.
Negative points:
· Everyone wanted to feed kids, but not possible.
· Impatience set in when waiting for turn at milking.

Aims: To make decorations to brighten up farm classroom for Christmas
Objectives: To see how decorations can be made using minimal materials
Activity: Paper plate stained glass windows
Evaluation:
Positive points:
· Teacher able to take idea back to school.
· Visitors to farm able to see work of Discovery Club.
· Children enjoyed freedom of activity.
Negative points:
· Lack of materials – colour pens.
