3. DISCUSSION:

·  + / - Policy

·  Attendance / Absence Policy

·  Principle: ALL STUDENTS MUST ATTEND CLASS FOR THE FULL CLASS PERIOD. PERIOD.

·  Policy: There are two kinds of absences, excused and unexcused.

·  Excused are those for religious observance, illness, military service, or other official activity in which the student is required to participate. For illness, no note is required but may be requested. Work or exams missed via excused absences MUST be accommodated by the instructor. See HOP 5.09

·  UnExcused absences are all others. Three of these will be tolerated, but missed work MUST be made up by the student. Student will be notified via email after two absences to remind them of their obligation for attendance, and if delinquent to discuss missed work. Faculty are to determine the means of dealing with absences beyond three. Keep in mind that seminar courses meet 30 times a semester and studio 45. So in the case of seminar/lecture classes the three tolerated = 10% of their overall attendance. Studios meet more often, but 3 sessions = one week overall. My recommendation is that a student Fails the Class after 5 absences. At 4 absences they suffer the loss of a letter grade on final grade.
