TEACHING INNOVATION FUND – APPLICATION FORM

The University of Kent’s Q-Step Centre has introduced a Teaching Innovation Fund (TIF) to encourage innovative ways of teaching research-related skills, integrated in substantive courses; its value is £15,000 per annum. Before completing this form, please read the TIF guidance. Your application should include clearly state the following:

a)  The use to which the funding will be put and the aims of the activity;

b)  A detailed breakdown and justification of the amount requested;

c)  The intended outcomes.

Please note the following:

·  Applications should be forwarded by applicants to their Director of Learning and Teaching (DoLT) for a statement of support. The form will then be forwarded to the Head of School (HoS) for approval. The form will only be accepted if it is sent via the HoS;

·  If the planned teaching involves any elements that could also be classed as ‘research’, then it should conform with research ethics requirements;

·  Costings should be in line with University Travel and Subsistence rates; buyout rates or rates for a project assistant should be agreed by the School Administration Manager;

·  The Fund will not support costs that are routinely covered by School budgets, and receipts will be required in all cases;

·  Sections 1-4 must not exceed two sides of A4 (please use Arial 11pt).

1.The funding is only available for the agreed time period stipulated in the application form from the time of the award. Any money which has not been utilised within this time will be returned to the Q-Step Centre, unless a case is made for an extension.
2.The funding should not be used for any purposes other than those indicated in the application.
3.If items of general use or application are purchased from the funds awarded, they should be given to the Library when the research is completed.
4. The Kent Q-Step Centre logos should be used on any materials within the project, and should be credited appropriately in any resulting academic output.
5.Successful applicants agree to write a summary of the project on the Q-Step website (and to provide short supplementary materials on e.g. spending) no later than 3 months after project completion – guidance will be made available from the Kent Q-Step team.
