“The Freshman” and “Sixteen Candles” Next Films to Screen at Weinberg Center

FREDERICK, Md., Thursday, March 9,2017—The Weinberg Center for the Arts’ Silent Film Series will continue with a screening of the 1925 silent comedy “The Freshman”on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30pm. Brat Pack cult favorite “Sixteen Candles” will screen on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:30pm as the next film in the Flying Dog Film Series.

Tickets for both screenings are $5-$7. Tickets may be purchased online at WeinbergCenter.org, by calling the Box Office at 301.600.2828, or in person at 20 West Patrick St.

“The Freshman,” which sparked the craze for films set in college and university settings, will feature accompaniment on the mighty Wurlitzer organ. The film stars Harold Lloyd and is not rated, with a runtime of 76 minutes.Installed in 1926, the Weinberg’s magnificent Wurlitzer organ is the only one of its kind in Maryland still in its original installation. The Wurlitzer is played by Baltimore native Michael Britt, who previously served as a substitute for longtime organist Ray Brubacher.

Prior to the screening of “Sixteen Candles,” a happy hour will be held in the Weinberg Center lobby, beginning at 6:30pm. The 1984 hit follows Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald) on her sixteenth birthday… which her family has forgotten. “Sixteen Candles” is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of 93 minutes.
