Many different religions that we learned about in WC have many similarities. First, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam can be traced back to a man named Abraham. For example, in Judaism God told Abraham to go to Canaan to be the patriarch of the “chosen people” the Jews. In Christianity, God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Some believe this is foreshadowing of when God sacrificed his only son, Jesus, in the New Testament. Lastly, in Islam, Abraham is the man who built the Kabah with his son Ishmael. In Islam he also received the white stone from heaven which is placed in the Kabah and has turned black from the sins of the earth.

Another similarity is both Hinduism and Buddhism believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is a cycle of birth, death and rebirth. For example, in Hinduismif you live a good life, according to the Vedas, and live by your caste system you will be rewarded in your next life. If you don’t follow the religions rules you would be demoted in your next life. In Hinduism you eventually cycle out intoMoksha (the highest level). InBuddhism if you live a good life, according to Four Noble Truths, then you also will be rewarded in your life. Buddhism also has the system where you could be demoted or have to redo a life if you don’t follow the rules. In Buddhism, you eventually cycle out, reach Enlightenment and go to Nirvana.

On the other hand, if you don’t live a life according to Vedic laws you may be demoted in your next life. In Hinduism, eventually you can cycle out of reincarnation to a “paradise” called Moksha. In Buddhism if you live a good life according to the Four Noble Truth and Eight fold path you will be rewarded in your next life. However, if you don’t live according to the Eightfold Path you may also, much like in Hinduism, be demoted in your next life. In Buddhism, eventually you can cycle out of reincarnation, become enlightened, and enter a place called Nirvana. The next similarity is Christianity, Hinduism and Islam all have rituals or traditions to do with water. For example, in Christianity, many of the followers get baptized with or in water to symbolize they belong to the Christian faith, or to symbolize the washing away of human sinning. In Hinduism, many of the followers bathe in the Ganges River to symbolize that they are washing away their sins. Finally, in Islam, many of the followers practice wudu. Wudu is the practice of washing ones face, mouth, arms, hands, and feet before prayer. This symbolizes that their body is clean and ready to be present before their God, Allah.
