Elk River Sportsman’s Club

7th Annual F-Class

Prairie Dog Championship

This event will take place on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 with the first shot headed down range at the Prairie Dogs Targets at 10:00am. Registration starts at 8:30am and runs until 9:30am. This event is open to three categories of shooters. They are F-Open, F-TR shooters, and Other Gun. F-Open and F-TR shooters will follow all F-Class rules in relation to the discipline they chose to shoot. The Other Gun category is open to other guns capable of accurately reaching the target at 200 and 300 yards. They are limited to a max power of 26X on their guns scope. All shooters must follow the Elk River Sportsman’s Club KD Range Rules which are listed on the last page of this program.

The Entry Fee for this event is just $20.00.

How this event works is as follows:

We start out at 200 yards and give you unlimited sighters at a paper target to get your zero.

We then staple up four targets with three Prairie Dogs on each target for a total of 12 Prairie Dogs to shoot at. There is also a half inch orange circle on each Prairie Dog to represent the heart shot. Hitting that circle is considered your X Count for score. However, that circle is located near the side or edge of the Prairie Dog silhouette, so use caution when shooting at the heart because you may miss the Prairie Dog entirely.

You then have 12 minutes with 12 rounds to shoot at 12 Prairie Dogs.

You can only hit each Prairie Dog once. If you hit the same Prairie Dog twice, the second hit doesn’t count towards your score.

The person pulling targets in the pit will pull the target down to see if you hit a Prairie Dog. If your bullet hit inside the Prairie Dog silhouette, he or she will spray the bullet hole with red spray paint, mark the hole with a golf tee, put the marking disk on the ten spot for just a hit, and the X spot if it was a heart hit, and send the target up. You will see its hit by the red paint on the Prairie Dog, and the marking disk on either the ten spot or the X spot. You then move on to the next Prairie Dog on the target.

Once all 12 shots are out, we mark down how many Prairie Dogs were hit, and how many heart shots there were and move back to 300 yards and do it all again.

You will then have unlimited sighters at 300 yards to get your zero, and then have 12 minutes with 12 rounds to shoot at 12 Prairie Dogs.

After all shooting is complete; we will see how many of the 24 Prairie Dogs you hit and how many heart shots you had. We can then determine who the next Prairie Dog Champions will be.

There will be prize money paid out for the top three places in all there shooting disciplines, F-Open,

F-TR, and Other Gun. There must be at least 10 shooters in a category in order to pay out winners in the top three places. If there are less than 10 shooters in a discipline, then only the top two places will be paid out. If there are less than five shooters in a discipline, then only the top shooter will be paid out. First place in F-Open, F-TR, and Other Gun will also be awarded the prestigious traveling trophy for being the “Prairie Dog Champion”.

Come on out and enjoy this different and fun event. It only takes about three hours to do the two different yardages. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Rick Sievers at .

See you there!

KD Range Policy

·  All bullets must have a known impact. No excuses! The assistance of a spotter and pit staff is highly recommended at all ranges and required at 600 yards. Higher power scopes, spotting scopes, “Shoot-n-C” targets will assist in spotting bullets when shooting without pit staff.

·  The 100 and 200 yard ranges are open to any member with a known zero.

Members can use these ranges any time the range is free.

·  The 300 and 400 yard ranges require the member to be certified as having the skills and knowledge to use these longer ranges. This KD Range Long Distance Certification can be accomplished in two ways:

  1. Possession of a current NRA Mid-Range or Long Range classification card with the classification of Expert or higher.
  2. Successful completion of the KD Certification class and range test.

·  Members may bring guests to the KD Range, but members are responsible that guests are competent to use the range. Certified members must supervise their guests on all KD ranges.

·  The 600 yard range will remain open only during organized events or for members in possession of a current NRA Mid-Range or Long Range classification card of Expert or higher with permission of the KD Chair or designated assistants.

·  Three people are required to shoot at 600 yards: one person in the pits, one watching vapor trail of the bullet and the bullet impact, and the shooter. The member holding the NRA classification card must remain on the firing line and supervise all non-classified shooters.

·  A list of all KD Range Long Distance Certified users will be kept in the clubhouse for verification purposes by the Range Attendants.

Rules Specific to 600 Yard Shooting

·  Zero tolerance for short or low impacts. The shooter will insert the ECI and cease fire for the match.

·  Zero tolerance for unknown impacts. The shooter will insert the ECI and cease fire for the match.

·  Zero tolerance for shots fired during preparation period.

·  If a shooter shoots two short or unknown impacts over the season, the shooter will be banned from the 600 yard line for the remainder of the calendar year.

·  Spotting scopes are required for all scorers

·  Scorer is required to watch the vapor trail and confirm impact of all shots into the target and berm.

·  Rifles without a confirmed 600 yard zero are required to have 16 MOA of elevation added to the 100 yard sight setting to insure a safe, albeit high, impact when shooting at 600 yards.

·  Shooters must coordinate all unconfirmed zero sighting shots with at least one spotter and the pit staff to confirm safe impact of the first shot.

·  The Pit Supervisor has the final authority to cease all firing when deemed necessary. Firing will only resume when the Pit Supervisor and the Match Director agree the safety issue has been resolved.
