STOCK PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENT

1st SEMESTER

All assignments must be typed or clearly written.

1.  Register by Wednesday, August 29th. Go to http://www.marketwatch.com/game/mrseconomicscfhs (25pts.) Click on Find a Game. Our game password is tigers. You have been given a lump sum of $100,000.00. You will include in your project the name of the corporations you’ve chosen to invest in, the price you bought it at, the number of shares purchased, and a statement as to WHY you decided to invest in this corporation. YOUR GRADE ON THIS PORTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT WILL DEPEND ON MEETING THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS AND THE DIVERSITY DEMONSTRATED WITHIN THE PORTFOLIO. Due Friday, August 31st.

2.  Due Monday, December 10th – a clear presentation of your portfolio performance from the beginning of the assignment through December 1st. YOU WILL BE GRADED ON THE RELATIONSHIP OF YOUR PORTFOLIO’S PERFORMANCE AS COMPARED WITH THE DOW, NASDAQ, AND THE S&P INDEXES (spreadsheet). If your portfolio has performed at or above the “Market”, you will receive full credit. If your portfolio has performed significantly below “Market”, you will need to indicate what changes you would make and WHY. If you were to decide to stay with your portfolio, you will need to indicate WHY? If your portfolio has performed at or above the “Market” you will only need to write a paragraph concerning WHY you believe your portfolio has performed well.

3.  Due Monday, December 10th – a clear presentation of your portfolio performance (spreadsheet) from the beginning of the assignment to the present. In addition to the comparison of your portfolio to the “Market”, you MUST include an analysis statement (paragraph or more) concerning the best and weakest stocks within your portfolio. YOU WILL BE GRADED ON THE LOGICAL PRESENTATION OF MATERIAL CONCERNING WHY YOU BELIEVE THE STOCKS YOU HAVE CHOSEN HAVE PERFORMED SO WELL AND/OR SO POORLY DURING THE TIME FRAME OF THE ASSIGNMENT.

4.  Start selling and repositioning on Tuesday, December 11th. Turn this in on Wednesday, May 9th – . You WILL present a “new” portfolio (sell all old stocks and purchase new ones). You will present the new balance sheet indicating sold shares values and the repositioning of those dollars into new stocks. YOU WILL BE GRADED ON THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR PREVIOUS

PORTFOLIO (spreadsheet), THE DIVERSITY OF YOUR NEW PORTFOLIO, THE BALANCE SHEET INFORMATION, AND THE PRESENTATION OF WHY YOU HAVE CHOSEN THESE DIFFERENT STOCKS.
