Course Description: United States History since 1877 covers the founding documents and the major issues regarding industrialization, urbanization, imperialism, reform movements, and civil rights in the United States. This course will also examine changing relationships within our three branches of government. Additionally, this course will require students to utilize primary and secondary sources to facilitate critical thinking.
Classroom Goal: To encouragesuccessful students who are aware of the impact of political, economic, and social developments on the history of the United States and develop a profound respect for our country and its values; to develop a keen sense of responsibility toward our world; to develop skills which will enable the student to meet college and career requirements.
Required Supplies:
- 1 inch binder
- pencils/pens
- notebook paper
- earbuds
Classroom Rules and Expectations:
1.)Be on time to class. I start class ASAP!
2.)Bring all of your materials to class everyday.
3.) Be respectful: No talking while I am talking or while a classmate is talking during a class discussion.
4.) Respect yourself and your fellow classmates. Everyone will be treated with respect, as well as furniture and objects in the classroom, which should not be moved without permission. At no time should anything be used from my personal desk without asking, just as I would not remove an item from your backpack.
5.) Electronic Devices: Electronic devices will be used for class instruction according to teacher discretion, I will have an area set up so that you can charge your device; but devices will not be out on desks during instruction.
6.)Daily Procedures
- Warm-up-There will be a short assignment either on the screen or the board when you enter the classroom. Do it and be prepared with an answer. Also, pick up any handouts on the table when you enter the classroom.
- Make-up work procedure-A bin will be located in the back of the room with dated folders. Inside the folder will be any handouts or instructions you need to complete the assignment you have missed. If there is no folder for the day you missed I need to explain the instructions for the assignment. This needs to be handled at the end of class and you are responsible for coming to me.
- 10 minute rule-Do not ask to go anywhere the first ten minutes or the last ten minutes of class. The answer is “no.”
