Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education Administration
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Minimum five years teaching experience
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style

Essential Skills:

  • Collaborate with families for Sparta Area Schools to meet the educational needs of the child with a disability
  • Oversee and plan programming for students birth to 26 who have an Individual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Work with staff to maintain legal compliance in areas related to special education
  • Contract low incidence services with Kent Intermediate School District
  • Complete the Continuous Improvement Monitoring Systemprocess for Sparta Area Schools
  • Oversee special education evaluations (Certified and Non Certified Staff)
  • Plan professional development related to special education
  • Consult with Building Administrators regarding discipline for students on an Individual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Communication with staff regarding critical changes in special education and updates
  • Plan, Coordinate and ensure Extended School Year Services are provided based on State Standards
  • Attend Monthly School Board meetings and provide board reports
  • Attend Monthly Special Education Director meetings at Kent Intermediate School District
  • Schedule teacher assistants and managesubstitute coverage
  • Oversee budget for all areas that relate to special education Birth to 26
  • Managetransportation for students on anIndividual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Evaluate and adjustdistrict wide special education programming to meet the needs of students on an Individual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Ensure staff are trained for Crisis Prevention Institute
  • District coordinator for State Assessments as it relates toUniversal Tools, Designated Supports, Accommodationsand Alternative Testing
  • Coordinate with outside agencies as it relates to students on anIndividual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Work with Special Education Administration within Kent Intermediate School District to place students appropriately
  • Ensure Free Appropriate Public Educationis provided to students on an Individual Family Service Plan or Individualized Education Plan
  • Oversee Regional Moderate Cognitive Impairment Programming K-12th grade and Mild CognitiveImpairment 9-12th
  • District coordinator for 504 plans
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, team player and an excellent communicator
