Reading
The following are descriptions of reading that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3)
Decoding – being able to break apart a new word using phonics
- read words containing complex letter patterns
- apply multi-syllabic decoding
Fluency
- reads 77 words per min or higher – for grade level text
- uses expression and correct phrasing
Comprehension
- can retell a story and sequence events
- recall important events
- can recall important events
- make predictions
- asks some questions
- makes some connections
Writing – Personal Narratives
The following are descriptions of writing that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3) - *note writing takes more time to show growth than other subjects – improvements come in small bits at a time
Ideas, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, and Voice
- Ideas - provides some details to support reasons to answer the readers’ questions, Focus is known in most of the writing – focuses on a small moment.
- Sentences flow smoothly most often
- Words are sometimes interesting and have some variety
- Writing sounds like the person writing
Organization
- The sequence of the story is mostly clear and has a beginning, middle, and end.
- Story has a nice lead and ending –action, setting, dialogue or making a connection to the focus of the story may be used.
Grammar
- Common 3rd grade level words spelled correctly
- Correct use of capitals and periods
- Complete sentences
- Correct grammar usage
Math
The following are descriptions of writing that meets standard or is satisfactory (score of 3)
Overall Score – this is the progress the student is making towards skills learned during the quarter that were covered in the math curriculum
Basic Facts
- 10 facts
- Doubles
- Near facts (7 + 8 is like 7 + 7 or 8 + 8)
- 2 digit addition and subtraction
Problem Solving
- Able to read, understand and solve story problems with addition, subtraction, simple multiplication or problems with patterns, logical reasoning etc.
