Intern Job Description for Philanthropy Department

Old Colony Hospice is a non-profit healthcare agency that provides hospice and palliative care services to terminally ill patients. We believe in a whole patient care approach, going above and beyond traditional hospice care.

As a non-profit organization, we have a department dedicated to fundraising. The revenues generated by our efforts offset the difference between what it truly costs to provide this care and what private insurance and Medicare will reimburse. None of our patients will ever see bills or pay any out of pocket expenses.

Our fundraising program here at OCH consists of several initiatives, including three annual signature events, that raise funds and general awareness of our organization, as well as what hospice really means and what it can provide for families during this difficult time. Proceeds from these events are used to bring comfort care to each patient we are privileged to serve, and allows us to give them the kinds of support and services they need through our Veteran Volunteer Program, our alternative therapies programs (including Pet Therapy, Music Therapy, Reiki, etc.), and our bereavement support program for families.

We are looking for an intern to work directly with our Philanthropy Associate for Special Events on a variety of outreach efforts related to our signature events – 35th anniversary gala in December, Walk/5K in April, Golf Classic in July.

The right candidate will have excellent communication and writing skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office and social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instragram. Individual should also be organized, detail oriented, outgoing, and able to work independently while knowing when to ask questions. Intern will also work with other volunteers, committee members, donors and board members and must be comfortable interacting with people of all demographics.

General administrative duties which may include copying, filing, collating materials, mailings, data entry, spreadsheet management, scheduling meetings, making/answering calls, and Internet research.

Provide assistance with outreach to area schools and running clubs to recruit team captains and encourage participation in our annual walk and 5k, as either volunteers or walkers/runners.

Provide assistance with event logistics thru day of activities, which may include designing event materials, helping with and distributing display and promotional materials within our service area for brand awareness and participation, photography, vendor management, slide show creation for each event program, which will include honoring sponsor agreements etc.

Handle a majority of social media interaction surrounding all events which may include email, Facebook and Twitter posts, creating and posting YouTube videos (family/volunteer testimonials or sponsor acknowledgement), helping create and manage Instagram account.

Manage in-kind donation solicitation for event activities and auction items, set up and manage online auction site (Bidding for Good) for each event, write copy for bidding page descriptions of each item, manage purchases and closing of auction post events, including packaging, delivering, and shipping out product.
