Using the IT SligoCollege Email System
Once you are registered as a student of IT Sligo you automatically have a college email address. It is the only email you can use on the college campus
1To gain access to the college email system you need to visit the college website at
2When the IT Sligo website is displayed you will see a link to Student email which you should click on
3This will bring you to Microsoft Outlook Web Access which you can use anywhere that has access to the WWW. If you try to access the email from outside the college you will need to login on the college site
4Click on the Inbox which you will see in the left-hand column. If you cannot see the Inbox click on Folders button under the word Outlook

Receive an Email
1Click on Inbox
2Click on the check for new messages button in the toolbar
3Any emails waiting to be read should appear on your screen with the name of the sender and subject of the email
Create an Email
1Click on New in the toolbar
2The message screen appears
3In the To area type the email address of the person you want to send the message to
4In the Subject line type a subject so that the receiver knows what the email is about
5In the Message boxtype in the message you want to send
Send an Email
1To send the email click on the button on the toolbar
2The email is now sent and a copy of it should be stored in the Sent Items folder
3If for any reason you cannot send the email immediately you can Save it and it will be stored in the Drafts folder and you can send it later
View Sent Emails
1Click on the Sent Items folder
2A record of all emails sent should be on your screen
Attachments
Attachments are files that we send along with the email message to the recipient. Any file can be sent as an attachment provided it is not too big. We can send pictures, photos, word documents, spreadsheet files etc
Send an Attachment
1Prepare an email as described in above
2Before you send it click on the Attachments button in the New Message screen
3This will bring up the attachments dialog box
4Click on Browseto find the file you want to attach
5In the Choose file dialog box look until you are in the right folder and then choose the file you want to attach by selecting it
6Click Open
7The file location and name appears in the box as shown below
8Click Attach
9Place a tick in the box that appears beside the file you have selected in the Current file attachments area. You can see that I have attached 2 files to this email.
10If you forget to tick the filename at this stage the file will NOT be attached to your email
11You can remove a file by unticking the filename
12When you are finished attaching files Close the attachments dialog and you will see the filenames in the attachments area of your email
13When the message is ready to send click on the Send button as before
14Your email with the attachment should now go to the recipient
Selecting the Recipient
If the recipient of the email is a staff member of student of IT Sligo you can find their email address in the following way:
1Double-click on the To…button that you see here for the email that you are creating
2The Find Names dialog you see below will appear
3In the Display name type in the name of the person you are looking for, for example Gerry
4A list of people with this name appears (if they exist) and you can then choose the Gerry you want by highlighting the name and then click on the To button at the bottom of the screen (This email is going to Gerry Sweeney!)
5We can add a second recipient to the same email by selecting a another name
6When you are finished adding names click on the Close button
7The screen now shows your email with the selected recipient in the To box
Setting up a Contacts Folder
To store the names, addresses and email addresses about your friends, family or others you can set up a Contacts folder.
1Click on the Contacts folder in Outlook
2Click on New in the Toolbar
3The screen above appears and you need to carefully fill in as much information as you can about the Contact
4When finished click on Save and Close
5This is how the items will appear in the Contacts folder when you are finished
6To send an email to somebody in the Contacts folder we need to go through the same process as before but we must select Contacts and NOT Global Address List from the dialog box that appears when we double-click the To button
