Dear Prospective ASLP Students and Parents,
We are pleased to inform you that you have qualified for the Advanced Studies and Leadership Program (ASLP). This three-week summer program is an exciting initiative for 205 high achieving 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in public school districts on Cape Cod and the Islands. This opportunity will be presented and discussed at a meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 6 p.m. in the Barnstable Intermediate School Library. Any student who wishes to apply for the ASLP is strongly encouraged to attend this meeting with at least one parent or guardian.
The Advanced Studies and Leadership Program is designed to provide an enriched learning and social experience within a collegial environment that emphasizes project-oriented instruction, team building and leadership development. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has agreed to partner with the Cape and Islands school districts and make their facilities, including outstanding technology and labs, available. Students will participate in the program on a residential basis Monday through Friday, returning to their homes on Friday afternoon and returning to MMA on Monday morning. The program will start on Sunday evening, June 25, 2017 and conclude on Friday, July 14, 2017.
As a qualifying student, you are invited to apply for acceptance. A limited number of seats for ASLP have been allocated for each Cape Cod school district based on the size of the district. The allocation for our district is thirty-two. The Cape Cod Collaborative, a school district consortium of which we are a member, will administer and supervise the program in partnership with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
The fee for participating students is $1240 for the full three-week residential program. There is an $80 application fee; there are no additional fees. The total cost ($1320) includes tuition, dormitory room, meals, activity fee and accident insurance premium. Limited scholarship funds are available for those who qualify.
The meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 6 p.m. in the Barnstable Intermediate School Library is provided for you to learn more about this program and to receive application materials. The ASLP Program Director and former graduates of the program will be available to you that evening. We look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
