Position: Community Outreach Specialist PAY GRADE: 4

SCOPE:To increase utilization of YWCA Richmond services and build relationships with community members, community partners, and clients to provide education and resources on mission elements including domestic and sexual violence, early childhood education, racial justice, and empowering women.

DUTIES: Essential Functions: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the functions listed:

Partnership Development

Seek out membership to community workgroups that pertain to mission elements. Participate in and represent YWCA at community workgroups, coalitions, and subcommittees. Assess relevance of community partnerships to identify best fit for YWCA and its mission. Steward relationships with community partners to ensure regular and continuing community education.

Community Education

Develop and implement curriculums that are in line with best practice and community need for educating individuals on mission elements. Seek out opportunities to educate community members on mission-based issues. Facilitate workshops to community members at times appropriate for partners (including nights and weekends). Manage data and program outcomes for grants and tracking purposes. Develop and administer program surveys and pre-andpost-tests to appropriately track and monitor outcomes.

Community Outreach

Acquire new opportunities for tabling events. Manage individual volunteers during tabling engagements. Facilitate programming designed to increase awareness of YWCA services. Develop materials to provide safe and accurate information pertaining to resources. Identify underserved areas and seek outreach opportunities to increase service utilization in those areas. Develop and implement community outreach system leveraging internal resources and partnerships for community engagement.

Awareness Month Events

Plan, organize, and execute awareness month event campaigns. Secure community partners for collaboration on awareness month events. Create social media campaign to educate and promote awareness month topics. Advertise awareness month events to interested community members

General Department

Contribute to achievement of department goal ofincreasing service utilization an advancing YWCA Richmond’s mission at the community level.

This job description is intended to outline areas of responsibility of the Community Outreach Specialist. It is not a complete list of tasks that are included in the position. Community Outreach Specialist is encouraged to use their experience and creativity to effectively implement the goals of this position. Weekly meetings are held with the Director of Advocacy and Outreach to discuss new ideas or challenges.

Supervision: This position reports directly to the Director of Advocacy and Outreach and serves at the YWCA Downtown office located at 6 North 5th Street, Richmond, VA 23219.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable work experience
  • Coursework or comparable experience in program design, evaluation, and management
  • Knowledge of social and racial justice environment and organizations of Richmond
  • Experience with collecting and interpreting data
  • Working knowledge of a computer and programs such as Microsoft Suite and Google Docs
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Experience or comparable knowledge of community organizing best practices
  • Passion for the mission of YWCA Richmond
