Cloud Awards Rolling In

In July 2016, QAD won the Stratus Award forCloud Company of the Yearfrom the Business Intelligence Group after making it as a finalist in 2015. Now theCloud Awardshasshortlisted QAD as a finalistfor its 2016-2017 competition. In an increasing difficult field for winning cloud awards, since virtually all ERP and supply chain software providers now offer a cloud option, QAD continues to stand out. As our CTO Tony Winter stated, “We believe the ERP industry has been moving, and will continue to move, to the cloud and we believe that QAD Cloud ERP is well positioned as a full-strength solution delivered in the cloud to support global manufacturing companies.”

In Search of Agility: QAD Cloud ERP in Forrester Landscape Again

Forrester Research included QAD for the second year in a row in Forrester’s just published non-comparativeVendor Landscape: SaaS ERP Applications, 2017 (available in Sales Resources but not for external distribution please). Aligning directly with QAD’s agile approach, analyst Paul Hamerman cited agility, speed and cost (see survey below) as the number one priority for switching to SaaS.

Decision Factors for Adopting Emerging Technologies

Sorting through all of the information about emerging technologies is not an easy task, but there are methods to do it as efficiently as possible. No single factor outweighs all other factors when QAD decides whether to add or replace technology in its solutions. For every emerging technology that ends up on QAD’s short list, we consider all the following areas in the risk, cost and benefit analysis.Read more.

The Only Constant In Manufacturing Is Change

Why does a manufacturer that has been around for 20 years fail or succeed in the next year? Why does ERP, which supported the business at first, now need to be replaced? Why does your customer decide to buy your product today vs. last year or next year?
At its core, the answer is change. How we move from a current steady state to success or failure is a result of how we respond to change in a way that impacts our fit with the environment.Read more.

The New Nutrition Label: Challenges and Opportunities

In May, the United States federal government announced sweeping changes to nutrition facts labels that, among other things, will require companies to show the amount of extra sugar added to products during the manufacturing process. These new guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration will potentially affect more than 800,000 food products and cause many industry players to be fearful of lost revenue and reduced profitability.Read more.

Supply Chain Risk is at the Top of the Bubbling Stage

QAD’s Terry Onica says that with the new IATF 16949 automotive quality standard, supplier leadership must demonstrate a stronger commitment to risk-based thinking “and show that they are taking actions proportionate to the potential risk.” In an exclusive video interview at AIAG’s 2016 Supply Chain Summit, Onica notes: “When I go out and look at suppliers’ contingency plans, I’m not seeing that today.”Read more.

C-Bit: Epicor Acquires Document Management and AP Automation Solution Vendor

Epicorannouncedthe acquisition ofdocSTAR, an enterprise content/document management and accounts payable automation solution vendor. docSTAR offers cloud and on premise versions and currently, like Epicor, is primarily North American focused. docSTAR has approximately 2000 customers in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, though there is no indication that manufacturing is an area of strength. Epicor states that docSTAR has “a successful track record integrating its solutions with leading ERP offerings,” but docSTAR has no current ties with QAD.

C-Bit: SAP IoT Strategy Leader Unveils IoT Roadmap

SAPunveiledits roadmap for the Internet of Things, IoT, through a recent interview with Hans Jörg Stotz, head of IoT Strategy and Innovation. Why is SAP focused on Iot? Stotz stated that:

  • “We believe that the IoT market will grow to a value of several hundred billion within just a few years.”
  • “we will see the greatest impact in Manufacturing and Logistics.”
  • “Autonomous systems such as robotics are taking over new tasks and interacting directly with business systems in storage, logistics, and production. The IoT and autonomous systems can relieve and support the human task force significantly.”

At this point, the SAP IoT portfolio consists of the following:

  • IoT Application Services (reusable microservices) on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform
  • SAP Predictive Maintenance & Service
  • SAP Asset Intelligence Network, which SAP refers to as a “Facebook of Things.” It is a business network that allows companies that produce, use, or maintain equipment and parts to cooperate by sharing data.

C-Bit: SAP Takes MES to the Cloud

SAPannouncedlast week the availability of SAP Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in the SAP HANA Cloud. SAP hopes to differentiate its MES offering from competitors with the transactional processing power of SAP HANA, which they believe will enable customers to connect manufacturing processes with IoT data. SAP believes this will result in better visibility into shop floor operations and optimized asset utilization and productivity.

C-Bit: Oracle Acquires Apiary

Oracle hasannouncedit is buyingApiarywhich specializes in managing and monitoring application programming interfaces (APIs). Oracle joins other large software companies looking to add API expertise and tools. In September, Google acquired Apigee, an Apiary competitor, for $625 million. Apiary has some well-known customers including Salesforce.com and Microsoft. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

C-Bit: SAP FY16 and Q4 Results and Updated Long Term Guidance
SAPannounced4th quarter and FY16 full year results. Notable highlights include:
• Full Year Cloud Subscription and Support Revenue Up 31%
• Full Year Cloud and Software Revenue Up 7%
• Full Year Operating Profit Up 20%
• Q4 New Cloud Bookings up 40%, Net Profit up 18%
SAP also announced it would increase its dividend. SAP claims it doubled the number of S/4HANA customers since this time last year and that it signed 1,300 customers in Q4 with 30% net new. SAP, bullish on itself, increased 2020 targets “to reflect the company's consistent fast growth in the cloud," with goals between €8B and €8.5B in cloud subscriptions and support revenue, up from €7.5B-€8B. Wall Street reacted somewhat positively with SAP shares up fractionally after the announcement.

C-Bit: Oracle, Layoffs and Lawsuits

Oraclelaid off1800 employees, including 450 positions in the Hardware System division. Analysts believe that the layoffs along with roadmap changes mean that Oracle will soon sunset SPARC and Solaris, two products obtained in Oracle’s acquisition of Sun Microsystems. Oracle’s declining hardware revenue and increased focus on the cloud support are responsible for the shift.

Oracle faces yet another lawsuit, this time from the US Department of Labor. The government alleges that Oracle has “systemic practices” of discrimination in its recruiting and hiring process. Oracle denies this and claims the suit is politically motivated. Oracle is alsosuingone of its own salespeople who was awarded a withheld commission by an arbitrator, which Oracle now contests.

ARaymond

Created in 1865, theARaymondNetwork has developed manufactured and marketed fastening and assembly solutions for several generations.

One of the leaders in the automotive market, the ARaymond Network has gradually transferred its expertise and skills to new markets such as truck, industrial, energies, agriculture and life sciences. Since its inception, the ARaymond Network has known how to be inventive by originally creating the press-stud, a small assembly now used worldwide.

With 22 production site worldwide, 5 500 employees and 25,000 references in production, ARaymond is one of the largest in Europe and third in the world manufacturing clip fasteners.

A Team Success

Just before Christmas 2014, ARaymond selected DynaSys Demand Planning and Production Planning solution and deployed a core model for France and Germany on their 2 main business units, Quick Connector and Clip. Thanks to the brilliant work of our service team, including on the functional area Julien (Von Seckendorff), Remi (Pawlus) and Richard (Lauth) on the technical area, the project was a success and ARaymond decided to deploy the solution worldwide.
With their global deployment, ARaymond realized that they also needed a tool to plan and optimize their distribution network worldwide. After some discussion with our sales and executive team, ARaymond decided to sign for the DynaSys DSCP Unlimited solution for Demand, Production and Distribution Planning modules including unlimited number of users and factories.

What’s next?the first deployments have already started for China and India. During 2017, ARaymond will deploy DynaSys Demand, Production and Distribution solutions to Brasil, Japan, Mexico and North America.

Naturex

Naturexis the global leader in speciality plant-based natural ingredients. The Group is organized around three strategic markets (food & beverage, nutrition & health and personal care) and produces and markets speciality plant-based ingredients for the food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

It also has a global commercial presence through a dedicated network of sales offices in more than 20 countries.

DynaSys Demand Planning went live across all Naturex Divisions in EMEA, ASPAC and NA in early 2016. Today over 150 sales representatives worldwide connect every month via the DSCP Web Portal to update their sales forecast through a collaborative forecasting process. Moreover, they are also able to get access to all the DSCP performance indicators such as market trends and variability as well as historical forecast accuracy.

In 2016, the Naturex Supply Chain team decided to streamline their logistics network and cleanse their data to be able to get an accurate picture of initial stock across the globe. The need for a tool to support this new process was inevitable and after some discussion with our sales team, Naturex decided to acquire the DynaSys Distribution Planning solution to optimize their DRP (Distribution Requirement Planning).

What Next? After optimising the global distribution network, DynaSys and Naturex will investigate how to replace the Infor solution already in place for finite capacity planning and S&OP.
