Evidence based policing – A review of how research undertaken by the Police produces interesting outcomes for the Police Officer and the Citizen

This seminar will examine how modern police and academic research in Europe effects practical policing on the street. The research is evidence based and gives the police officer possibilities in their daily work.The seminar will focus on police officer research. There will be an opportunity for a field trip. The seminar will introduce participants to modern up to date police research and how it can be used to make the-police officer more efficient. It will illustrate the use of Hot Spots research to target areas where criminal acts and anti social behavior occur. Research into embedding police officers in schools to drive down crime and antisocial behaviour and it's effect on local as well as school communities will be examined. Research into more efficient collection of evidence from witnesses in domestic violence will be an area of study, also robberies, burglaries and homicides.The impact of social media on police work will also be examined.

Conditions for Seminar Participation
Participation is open to any interested person over 16years of age. The current seminar programme is available at the IBZ, can be downloaded from the IBZ homepage or can be sent out if needed.

All seminars are held at the IBZ in Marienheide-Gimborn (sometimes including an excursion).

Binding applications can be submitted by letter, fax, email or online. Application forms are available on the IBZ homepage (). Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received. Waiting lists may be kept where necessary. Seminars will not take place if the respective minimum number of participants (see seminar programme) is not met by firm applications.

Individuals who do not intend to participate in the entire seminar cannot be considered for participation; or they shall pay the full seminar fee.

Information and draft applications relating to special leave under the terms of the German Federal regulations for special and / or educational leave are available on the IBZ homepage.

The participation fees include: full board (breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee and cake, evening meal) and lodging for the seminar duration (as described in the programme), all qualified and educational services on offer, excursions if relevant to the programme, and seminar support. Participants are generally accommodated in double rooms. There are regular and discounted seminar participation fees. The discounted seminar participation fee applies only to certified members of the International Police Association (IPA). Members of the German Section of the IPA may submit an education voucher that reduces the participation fee. The voucher must be presented to the IBZ in the original! Other IPA sections also offer their members education vouchers for IBZ seminars which may be credited towards participation. IPA discounts, education grants or education vouchers can only be accepted by the IBZ and credited if the participant presents his/her IPA membership card, or an original IPA education voucher. Seminar participants shall pay in the IBZ upon the end of the seminar. (In general two thirds of the participation fee will go to the respective seminar, one third is used to cover institutional costs.)

Accommodation in a single room is subject to a nightly surcharge of € 11 / night. For arrivals a day before the seminar begins, a reduced charge of €31 per room including breakfast will be due. For an additional night’s stay at the end of the seminar, the reduced cost for lodging and breakfast is € 37.

Upon receiving a preliminary confirmation by IBZ the participant shall make a down payment amounting to 20 % of the seminar fees within 2 weeks. Upon receipt by the IBZ of the down payment, the participant will receive a booking confirmation with important information prior to arrival. The booking shall now be binding on both sides. The down payment will be credited against the participation fees in the final invoice. In case a participant cancels, the down payment will not be refunded. If the seminar must be cancelled by theIBZ, the down payment will be refunded. Unused services will not be refunded.

For participants who have been officially seconded, the participation fee shall be paid by the employer who will not pay before the seminar but within two weeks at the latest after receiving the invoice from IBZ.

IBZ offers a shuttle service. Participants will be charged the following amounts: – from / to Engelskirchen train station: € 11, from / to Cologne central station: € 58; – from / to Cologne airport Köln: € 50, from / to Düsseldorf airport: € 80. The shuttle and fee may be shared by up to 7 persons with a common destination.
