Dance Teacher’s Practical Training Supplement
As part of our ongoing commitment to high quality dance education and professional development, Ausdance WA is thrilled to be presenting the first Dance Teacher’s Practical Training Supplementworkshop developed by James Berlyn in collaboration Ausdance WA.
The DTPTS is a five-day full-time program providing teachers and aspiring teachers with the practical skills and strategies needed to successfully teach dance in the classroom, community, recreation and social settings. The DTPTS is designed for professional dance teachers of any style or experience level.There are no entry requirements to this workshop, and though the
program is designed as a practical supplement to the new online Dance Teacher’s Skill Set (currently in development by Ausdance Victoria), it can be taken purely as intensive professional development training.
To ensure the program can go ahead, Ausdance WA is gathering Application Formsalong with a $100 deposit from dancers and teachers who would like to enrol in this program (see overleaf).The deposit will be deducted from your fee. Places are strictly limited to provide the optimal learning environment. The dates for the DTPTS in 2016 are:

Dates: Monday 18 – Friday 22 April, 2016 (second week of April School Holidays)
Location: Studio 1, King Street Arts Centre
About the Developer / Facilitator…
He is the instigator and co-curator of Proximity Festival, Australia's first and only festival of one-on-one performance. He was a founding co-director of Tracksuit, WA’s adult disability performance company supported by DADAA WA. He is a sessional lecturer in devised performance at WAAPA and is WA’s only accredited facilitator and assessor for Ausdance’s skill set for Teaching Dance.
James Berlynis supported through the Managing and Producing Services initiative of the Australia Council for the Arts and the Department of Culture and the Arts.

What will you gain?
-A week (40 hours) of professional training focussed on classroom practice
-Practical skills training and analysis of teaching strategies, tools and application delivered by an expert facilitator
-A unique networking opportunity to engage and learn from a range of other teachers, in turn developing a support system
-Valuable supported time to evaluate, reflect and build on your own teaching practice
-Ausdance WA referral upon completion*
What is required of you?
-Ausdance membership ($66 individual or $110 organisation)
-A workshop fee of $500 for the full 5 days plus you will receive ongoing support from the Ausdance WA team. (Payment plans available).
-Participants will be expected to team teach within the workshop
-Video footage: Participants will be expected to submit a video or uploaded footage (20-30mins) and a brief class plan no less than 4 weeks prior to the workshop (ie March 18, 2016). The video must contain evidence of themselves teaching and may be discussed/reviewed during the workshop for learning purposes. Upon completion of the DTPTS workshop, participants may submit a second video and class plan no more than 2 weeks after for extra feedback and support.NB: Ausdance WA canprovide support/helpfor filming/uploading video submissions if required.
