We have a half day orientation for international students offered on different days that students can choose from. The orientation includes but is not limited to:
-Immigration regulations for international students
-Registering for classes and resources at HPU
-Health & Safety, Tips for living in Hawaii
Students are required to bring the following documents to Orientation:
a. Passport (make sure that you have your I-94 card stapled in thepassport)

There is no home-stay family system in place at HPU.

HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY AND RISK MANAGEMENT

The EOP dictates the university emergency response. If a disaster occurs, the EOP dictates communications (who is notified), the setup of an incident command post, evacuation, sheltering, etc. The recent tsunami warning, a RAVE Alert was issued, warning students about a possible tsunami, evacuate to higher ground. Shuttle service was stopped and students stood by residence hall.

In August and September of every year, security puts on training from staff and faculty on evacuation procedures, evacuation routes. During the school year, emergency evacuation drills are conducted at both the windward and downtown campuses. All faculty and staff who attend evacuation training sign in for the training. Log is kept with security and on Security page, Nexus.
What emergency response training is provided to staff?
Emergency Evacuation and Lock down procedures. Events covered are Bomb Threats, Fire, Gas Leak, and Natural Disaster. In March 2012, 31 faculty, staff, HPU and Guardsmark security are AED, First Aid and CPR qualified.
What contact have been established with appropriate health and mental health care providers on site and how are students made aware of how to access these resources?
We have a Counseling and Behavioral Health Services Office and all international students have access to the services provided.

· Valid coverage dates for the entire semester(s) attended need to be stated on the policy;
· Coverage for outpatient care, hospitalization, emergency room, accidents, medical evacuation, repatriation, and surgery needs to be provided;
· Health plans must have a non-reimbursement policy.This means that all medical bills must be paid DIRECTLY by the insurance company to the medical provider;
· Minimum $100,000 US Dollar coverage;
· Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness;
· A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness;
· At least 75% coverage for each accident or illness;
· Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500;
· Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her country in the amount of $10,000.
