Taiwan’s Cultural and Creative Industries Hit Europe to ShowcaseDiverse Creativity
Asthetransportation node ofEast Asian trade and facing various cultural territories, Taiwan not only takes the advantage of its geographic location to strengthenits economic development but also directly connects to the world to grasp global trends. The young generation’s open-minded characteristicshaped by the country’s geographic location hasfostered diverse thinking and immense tolerance.It further enables integration of the old and new cultures, which in turnfacilitates art creation and promotescompetitiveness.
In order to promote Taiwan’s cultural and creative industriesin the international market so that Taiwanese brands can get more global attention, the Ministry of Culture has launchedthe Fresh Taiwan project,which gathers10 Taiwanese brandsfor the third time andparticipate as a collective exhibition that represents Taiwanin the biggest international trade fair—Ambiente Frankfurt 2017—in Germany. Thisprojectaims to help participating brands get more international orders. The brandswill exhibit products ranging from furniture, home accessories, dining utensils, lighting fixtures, and life technology. These Taiwanese products display innovation and cultural diversity, expecting to attract global attention to the potentials of the innovative and culturally rich design brands. Thebrands include:eguchi toys, YenchenyawenDesign Studio, chihong, CELIA & PERAH, DAQICONCEPT, haoshi, eye candle, danzo, LoLatFurnitureObjects, and Lilt.
The Limitless Multi-Dimensional Creativity
Fresh Taiwan 2017 willfeature the theme of Multi-Dimension, conveying the innovative design styles that demonstrate the diverse Taiwanese ideas. Cubes are chosen to be the basic elements of the exhibition as they work best to denote the multi-dimensional concept. Cubes are arranged together to extend, grow, and form continuous patterns, which in turn creates a space allowing different interpretations when viewing from various angles. Each of the elements in these patterns represents Taiwan’s individual creative talents. Together, they bring abouta colorful masterpiece that incorporates the unique and multi-dimensional design aesthetics, presenting the specific features of Taiwanese innovative design.
Exquisite Craftsmanship: Contemporary Designers’ Interpretations of Traditions
Yenchenyawen Design Studio integrates natural elements into mixed materials. It creates refined and artistic modern home accessoriesby using a diverse range of colors and combining traditional craftsmanship with industrial manufacture. Rusted copper textures and metallic welding provide a new take on craftsmanship and science, making its tealight holders and jewellery trays unique and artistic. Eye candle produces scented candles with distinctive styles that present a new idea of integrating experimental spirits and life experiences. When a candle gives off light and aroma, it also emanates a warm, realistic taste, allowingartworks to speak to their users.
The Blending of Science and Creativity: The Aesthetics of Modern Life in Taiwan
The lighting product POOH, made by PEGA D&E and exhibited atAmbiente 2016, won the first-place honor of ILS for the second time. PEGA D&E will participate in Ambiente 2017, showcasing itsLilt brand. Thinking outside the box, Lilt will demonstrate the design potential of aestheticsfostered by information technology. DAQICONCEPT insists that good things take time. Its wireless audio lights are created by integrating traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, giving Eastern decorative bird cages a new look. Another exhibited item, thewood speakersof CELIA & PERAH, produces warm and smooth sounds and offers a new experience of music appreciation.
Constructing a Cultural Landscape of Living Space
Danzo has attracted many attentions as they offermetallic everyday objects that each comprisesseveral components. Their design allows users to freely arrange each piece of the gadgets and accessories. Inspired by the structure of ecosystem, danzo creates products that build a landscape on the top of a desk and add interesting elements to everyday life.Haoshi’s design focuses on animals as a theme. The migrant bird clocks and animal paperweights represent a diverse, natural, and pure world withvarious aspects. Eguchi toys hopes to grow with children happily, so its design aims to create products with simple lines, structures, and wood texture that can naturally be blended intothe children’s life. LoLatFurnitureObjectsmakes use of its profound understanding of natural materials and produces furniture andeveryday objects using wood, ceramic, and porcelain, attempting to convey the belief of simplicity.Chihong aims to create a relaxing living environment. Their furniture and home accessoriesare made with simple styles that allow users to take advantage of the flexibility of the products and manage the space with their own creativity.
Ambiente Frankfurt—A Must-Attend Consumer Goods Trade Fair
Ambiente was first held in 1949; since then, the trade fair has exhibited a vast collection of products, including home accessories, furniture, gifts, and decors. Being the biggest trade fairthat has the longest history in the globe, it is also the most iconic trade show in the customer goods sector. The show consists of three sections: Dining, Giving, and Living. Fresh Taiwan will belocated in 11.0 LOFT, a high-profile hall that attracts crowds. Exhibited design products feature simplistic, elegant, and aesthetic qualities. All participant brands along with their exhibited design products in this hall have to be reviewed first by the exhibition curator. The outstanding quality will also attract the media and buyers. Fresh Taiwan 2017 will surely be one of the highlights of the trade show, engaging in global design community, grasping the global trend, and entering the internationalcultural and creative market to create a positive image of Taiwanese brands that is recognized internationally.
