Unit 1 Social Studies Test on Friday, October 13th
Please use this sheet as a study guide. I strongly recommend that you reread pages 10 through 15, 20 – 26, 36 – 43, 48 – 53, and pages 66 – 71. For this test, there will not be questions about maps scales or landform maps. Read and discuss the lessons with a family member. Perhaps review one lesson a day. This test will include vocabulary matching as well as some writing.
Part A: Focus on these vocabulary terms: coast, natural resource, community, conserve, port, landform, aqueduct, commute, population. Use glossary to study definitions.
Part B: Essay Questions (try to write 2-3 sentences per question) See your social studies white response sheet for sample answers as well as your class edlio site. BRING YOUR SAMPLE RESPONSES THAT YOU WROTE AT HOME TO CLASS ON THURSDAY the 12thTO REVIEW WITH ME. Here are the two essay questions:

- How do people change their environment to meet their needs? Think about structures that are man made and describe their purposes.
- How does the business of the port of Los Angeles affect your life?
Part C: Look at side 1 of your social studies response sheet. Be sure to know the differences between rural, suburban, and urban communities. Be prepared to identify three bullet points that describe common features of each area: urban, suburban, and rural. You don’t need to write in complete sentences for this one; just short phrases that describe each setting.
