AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE CAPTAIN WALTER GOSS UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER TWENTYFIVE YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE WITH THE BATESBURGLEESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Captain Walter Goss for his significant contributions to the BatesburgLeesville Police Department; and

Whereas, on one fateful day, Walter Goss and his classmates from BatesburgLeesville toured the police department. Full of questions, Walter was fascinated by the daytoday aspects of being a police officer. The course of his life was set; and

Whereas, Walter went on to graduate from high school and join the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. In July 1992, Walter returned home and applied to become a law enforcement officer with the BatesburgLeesville Police Department, returning to his roots. He immediately was hired; and

Whereas, graduating from the police academy and working on gaining a college degree, Walter could not learn enough. He was eager to take every advanced police training course available. Wanting to further his education, Walter joined the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy in 2000; and

Whereas, he soon advanced to the role of detective in white collar crime, solving many cases. In 2007, he returned home once again and became Lieutenant and Captain at BatesburgLeesville Police Department, sharing his vast knowledge with the young officers; and

Whereas, upon returning to the BatesburgLeesville Police Department, Walter undertook the task of writing grants. He was able to successfully secure over one million dollars in funds and equipment, furthering the efficacy of the department. His dedication and hard work have led to significant advances for the department; and

Whereas, a committed police officer, devoted to constant improvement, Walter will be greatly missed after his twentyfive years of gaining and imparting knowledge. His legacy will burn brightly for years after his presence has left the building. His service to the community is unparalleled. Walter’s determination has helped provide knowledge and training to young officers who will continue to embody the values Walter lived daily; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representativesare grateful for the years of dedication that Captain Walter Goss has devoted to the safety of the community of BatesburgLeesville and to the BatesburgLeesville Police Department and wish himmany years of enjoyment in his wellearned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize Captain Walter Goss upon the occasion of his retirement after twentyfive years of exemplary service with the BatesburgLeesville Police Department, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Captain Walter Goss.
