Mission Statement

The mission of the Avon Grove School District Student Assistance Program is to assist students, families, and staff in the identification, and removal of barriers to student development and learning. The Student Assistance Program recognized that a student’s academic success could be directly impacted by his mental health and other life stressors. It is our goal to assist students through a partnership involving their parents and educators. We utilize collaborative prevention, intervention, and post intervention services in the accomplishment of our mission. The Avon Grove School District Student Assistance Program is not able to provide diagnosis or long-term treatment services but endeavors to connect students and families with appropriate resources.

The Student Assistance Program attempts to provide a network of prevention, intervention, counseling and support to overcome conditions that interfere with a students' ability to achieve to their fullest potential. This mission is accomplished by providing strategies and support to the school community and parents to improve their ability to help students succeed in school. The team also arranges other school and community resources as necessary for effective assistance to students.
PROGRAM GOALS: Provide strategies and support to the school community and parents by fostering the ability to be more successful in school.

The purpose of the Lake Stevens High School SAP team is to support and enhance student learning and well-being through the areas of prevention, intervention, and support as well as to help provide assistance to students who are showing signs of substance abuse, academic, attendance, and behavioral problems.

Prince George County Mission Statement:

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a school based substance abuse intervention program established to identify adolescents whose behavior, attendance, or grades indicate that they may have problems related to substance abuse. Through the seven steps that comprise the SAP process, these at-risk adolescents are directed to appropriate services in the community that will provide the necessary assistance.

Goals:

* Organize and implement a voluntary faculty team (including representatives from the faculty, administration, health and guidance) to respond to suspected drug use;

* Identify and respond to drug-related school issues;

* Take a pro-active posture in establishing programs;

* Encourage and support students to choose a drug-free lifestyle;

* Ensure a drug-free school environment by educating and engaging the support of staff, students and community regarding all aspects and consequences of chemical use.

Aberdeen School District STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM GUIDELINES

The purposes of the Aberdeen School District Student Assistance Program are:

1. To maximize parent/legal guardian, school, and district personnel involvement in assisting

students to achieve their potential.

2. To identify and maximize the utilization of our school and community resources in assisting

students and their families.

3. To provide assistance to students affected by alcohol and other drug abuse, physical,

emotional, social, legal, educational, sexual, medical, or familial problems.

4. To provide early intervention for students whose at-risk behaviors interfere with their own

education and safety or the education and safety of others.
