TO: USA Shooting Team; Participants of SG Fall Selection 2012

SUBJECT: 2013 World Shotgun Championship Team Selection Procedure Change

______

1. Last week the ISSF published a draft of the proposed 2013-2016 Rule Changes. The proposals have significant changes for the Skeet and Double Trap events and dramatic changes to the finals for all three SG events. These proposals are not finalized; final versions will not be adopted until the ISSF Meetings in Munich in November—changes are possible.

2. After consultations with the Athlete representatives to the USAS Board, Todd Graves, and other voices in the SG community, we have decided to make the 2012 Fall Selection Match a selection for only the first two World Cups of 2013. The Fall Selection 2012 will not be part of the World Championship Team selection process.

3. The primary reason for this change is to select the 2013 World Team completely under the rules that will be in effect for the 2013 WCH. The Spring Selection 2013 will be Part I of the World Team Selection process. All athletes will have the same fair chance to train and prepare under the rules and format that will be published after the November ISSF meetings. With the rules proposals still under debate for 2013, we believe that the cleanest and most equitable solution for the athletes will be to wait until the rules are clear before selecting the World Team.

4. The Fall 2012 Selection Match will be shot under current 2008-2012 ISSF rules as currently published. World Cup slots will be awarded from this match for the first two world cups of 2013.

5. The “Finals” rules for the World Team Selection will be published after ISSF completes the rules in November. We will review and consult with the athlete reps, coaches, and shotgun community as more is known about the format going forward.

6. In 2013, there are no Olympic Quotas or MQS’s available; No Olympic Team qualifying process will be in effect related to the World Championship.
