Dear Ms. Kollar;

This letter is intended to summarize activities undertaken in the project “Nonpoint Source Pollution Presentations for Municipalities with Educational Materials”.

The first 25% reimbursement ($775) was received in August 2008. The second 25% reimbursement ($775) was received in December 2008. With this final report, we are requesting the remaining amount of $1,550.00.

PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Accomplished to 11/30/08

·  Supervisors from Bell, Eldred and Warsaw met with Jefferson County Conservation District (JCCD) staff to summarize the benefits of their most recent Dirt & Gravel Road projects.

·  A placemat was created and 150 were printed for use at the Jefferson County Association of Township Supervisors Convention on 10/9/08.

·  A display board that outlined successful Dirt & Gravel Road projects and other types of NPS pollution prevention methods throughout the county was used at two county events: the Supervisors Convention and a Jefferson County Council of Governments (COG) meeting.

·  A PowerPoint presentation was created to show municipalities what nonpoint source water pollution is and how it can be prevented by proper bridge and road maintenance. The presentation was given at a COG meeting on 11/19/08 to more than 30 members.

Accomplished 12/1/08-6/22/09

·  The display board was used at the annual Jefferson County Watershed Festival.

·  The placemat design was revised to make it more effective at conveying the message of protecting our watershed by preventing polluted runoff from entering local waterways. Approximately 1100 placemats were printed and they were distributed to the following community events and non-profit organizations:

1.  Corsica Volunteer Fire Company

2.  Roseville Grange

3.  Farmer’s Union Spring Banquet

4.  Jefferson County Foster Parent’s Association Spaghetti Dinner

5.  Farm Bureau Spring Banquet

6.  Brockway Volunteer Fire Company

7.  Warsaw Volunteer Fire Company

·  Attendance at the 2009 WREN Conference. The placemat was also used at lunch on Tuesday at the conference.

EVALUATION

This project has been highly successful in Jefferson County. In total, over 1500 county residents were educated by the display, placemats, and Power Point presentation. This number includes approximately 180 municipal officials and employees from throughout the county. Now that the educational materials have been created, they can be duplicated and used at future events, thus insuring that the message will continue to be reinforced in our communities.

Following the PowerPoint presentation at the Jefferson County Council of Governments (COG), many townships expressed an interest in participating in future Dirt & Gravel Road projects. Since that time, several municipalities have contacted the JCCD for information on how to become eligible for grant funding. This interest indicates that the municipalities learned something valuable from the project and want to make a difference in their own watershed. Please contact me if you have any questions.
