Hough School Chess Tournament and

Fundraiser for Meher

At Hough Street School in Barrington

Saturday, Feb 25th10:00 to 3:00

Hough School is hosting its fourth chess tournament and we need as many people as possible to participate. For the last 3 years, we have raised money to finance reconstructive surgery for little 4-year-old Meher, who was badly burned when her mosquito netting caught fire. Meher is so bright, but so poor! In February 2009, Mrs. Gruber (Hough teacher), Brian Gruber (BHS graduate), Dr. Frey, and Dr. Sethi travelled to Delhi, India to bring her the money that the children at Hough’s Chess Club had raised. Meher’s surgery has been successful, but we continue to finance her education:

Please help us by:

Playing in the chess tournament (advance registration required)

Or come to Hough school anytime on the day of the tournament

  • Buy lunch or baked goods
  • Meet Chess Grand Master Yury Shulman
  • Meet Meher in the premiere of a documentary featuring our kids
  • Make a donation

Every dime raised at this tournament will go to helping Meher.

You can make a difference in the life of this child. Thank you!

If you would like more information about this event or would like to make a tax-deductible donation towards Meher’s surgery, please contact Kiran () or visit for chess tournament registration.
