1  Overview

This is a multi-purpose document, covering all types of installations. Please read the entire document before beginning. If you are unclear about this installation, please contact Support at 1-800-326-7235, option 3.

The installation of Relius Administration 7.0 involves the following basic procedures:

1)  Read and understand this document. Section 2 (Installation and Environment Considerations) and Section 3 (Pre-Installation Procedures) apply to all users. You must carefully read and understand them before beginning.

2)  Install Oracle (all multi-user systems and new single-user systems).

a.  Install Oracle 8i, version 8.1.7R3 (for multi-user systems). All multi-user systems must have Oracle 8i installed on their database server (using Windows 2000 Server as the operating system) before running this installation. Relius Administration 7 will not run on an Oracle 7 database server. This is a separate installation and requires the appropriate media and documentation from Sungard Corbel. To obtain a customized Oracle 8i installation CD, please call Technology Support.

b.  Install Personal Oracle System (if new single-user system). This is a separate installation and requires the appropriate media and documentation from Sungard Corbel.

3)  Install Relius Administration 7.0 and all components.

4)  Run upgrade scripts against database (if upgrading from Quantech 6.0).

5)  Install Relius Administration 7.0 Service Pack(s), if applicable.

6)  License each workstation.

7)  Configure Crystal Reports 8.5.

8)  Set up additional workstations (if necessary).

2 Installation and Environment Considerations

2.1  Program File Location

Program files are installed to C:\Program Files\Relius\Admin. Sungard Corbel strongly recommends using the defaults. However, if system configurations require, you may use another local drive letter, using the same directory structure. Relius Administration cannot be installed to a network. You will need your 6-character client ID (ABC123 format) and the TCP/IP address of your database server (if applicable) before beginning.

2.2  Installation Methods

Relius Administration is only available on CD-ROM. A local CD-ROM drive is recommended and supported. Each workstation will require access to a local CD-ROM drive. Other methods of installing (network volumes, “push” or “ghost” technology, Z.E.N. Works, Zip Drives, etc.) are neither supported nor recommended.

If a remote, shared CD-ROM drive is used to install the software, it must be mapped with a drive letter assigned. Running the Relius Administration 7.0 SETUP.EXE from a CD-ROM accessed by browsing with Network Neighborhood will fail.

2.3  New Single-User Systems

New Single-User systems need to have the Personal Oracle database system installed and properly configured prior to beginning this install. See the Personal Oracle Installation Instructions and use the Personal Oracle Installation CD. The document and CD are sent separately from this installation. If you did not receive these materials, please contact your Sungard Corbel Sales Representative.

2.4  Software fixes via Internet

Fixes and support files are distributed via the web at ftp://ftp.sungardcorbel.com. Users must have Internet capability to receive these fixes. Visit our web site and click “subscribe” (http://www.sungardcorbel.com/support/subscribe.asp) to receive notification of new fixes by e-mail. Sungard Corbel does not send patches and updates through the mail, and we strongly urge all users to subscribe to this service. Updated documents can be obtained at ftp://ftp.sungardcorbel.com/administration/ra70/docs.

2.5  Level-One Systems

Level-One Systems of Relius Administration do not include Crystal Reports. The use of custom Crystal Reports is prohibited on Level-One Systems. However, in order to run Report Writer Reports provided, the Crystal Report Writer will still need to be installed.

2.6  Virus Scanners

Some virus scanners are incompatible with the installation program. If these programs are active, they can interfere with successful installation. Symptoms include an error message stating that a file cannot be overwritten (such as RICHED20.DLL or RICHED32.DLL). Disable them by right clicking on the icons (in the system tray on the right side of the taskbar) and choosing Exit before starting the installer.

2.7  Windows NT Workstation/Windows 2000 Professional Considerations

Responsibility for support of problems and issues related to Relius Administration 7.0 running in a locked-down security configuration is that of the end user. Certain circumstances may require billing on a time and material basis. Sungard Corbel cannot guarantee that Relius Administration 7.0 will install or operate properly on any given locked-down security configuration. Relius Administration 7.0 is certified and supported only when run on the default Windows NT/2000 security settings.

The Windows NT/2000 Administrator (or a user with equivalent Administrator rights) must run the installation.

2.8  Unsupported Operating Systems

Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, and Windows 95 are no longer supported. For a list of supported operating systems and configurations, see Appendix A. Operating systems must be installed to the local hard drive of each workstation. Diskless workstations and operating systems that run from the network are not supported.

2.9  Hardware and Software Requirements

All hardware requirements are specified in Appendix A of this document.

·  Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 6a or greater, or Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2 or greater. (Windows 98 and Me systems should have the most recent patches and Y2K fixes installed. See http://www.microsoft.com/ for more information.) Windows NT 4.0 must have Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater installed.

·  Personal Oracle 7.3.4.0.0 database or Oracle Workgroup Server 8.1.7R3 pre-installed.

·  Appropriate printer driver (HP LaserJet III or greater).

·  TCP/IP Network Protocol for multi-user systems. TCP/IP must have a static IP address on the database server. SPX is no longer supported by Oracle; for that reason, SPX is no longer an option for a network protocol.

·  Minimum video resolution of 800 x 600 with 256 colors.

·  Workstations upgrading from Quantech 6.0 must be at Service Pack level 6 or later. The installation will abort if this Service Pack has not been installed.

2.10  Environment PATH Issues

The Oracle Installer places C:\ORACLE\ORA81 (Single-User systems use C:\ORAWIN95 or C:\ORANT) in the environment variable known as the “path” (substitute D: or E: for your local hard drive). This variable is required for Oracle to function. In Windows NT/2000, the path is set in the system’s registry. In Windows 98/Me, the path is set in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Several circumstances may cause Oracle to be missing from the path after re-booting:

·  The @ symbol in the path statement or more than one path statement in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT manually and combine all path statements, without using the @ symbol.

·  Network login script changing the path. Your Network Administrator will need to edit your login script to include C:\ORACLE\ORA81 (Single-User systems use C:\ORAWIN95 or C:\ORANT).

·  “Call” batch files changing the path. Manually edit the called path statement. Consider editing the called batch file to use the below example:

PATH=%PATH%;C:\MYPATH;C:\ORACLE\ORA81
PATH=%PATH%;C:\MYPATH;C:\ORAWIN95 (or C:\ORANT)

·  Too many parameters in the path. Either remove redundant or unnecessary path statements from AUTOEXEC.BAT or change your environment space. In CONFIG.SYS, consider using the below line (adjusting the /E: switch accordingly):

SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:1024 /P

If Windows will not launch after installing Relius Administration 7.0, the path may need to include C:\, C:\WINDOWS, or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT manually. This is usually indicated by the below error message:

"Cannot find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading Windows"

2.11  Network Protocol

Oracle no longer supports the SPX protocol. TCP/IP is the only protocol supported by Sungard Corbel. The database server must have a static TCP/IP address. Workstations can have a TCP/IP address automatically assigned, but Sungard Corbel recommends static TCP/IP addresses on the workstation. For more information, please see visit http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/techresources/commnet/TCPIP/TCPIntrowp.asp or see your network administrator. You will need to enter the TCP/IP address of the database server during the installation.

2.12  Windows Me Considerations

Users of Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) attaching to a multi-user Oracle 8i database need to read Appendix C before beginning.

2.13  Upgrade Order of Installation

Users upgrading from Multi-User Quantech 6.0 need to ensure that their database server has been successfully upgraded to Windows 2000 Server and Oracle 8i Release 8.1.7 prior to running this installation. The database upgrade scripts will fail if the database server is still at Oracle Server 7. The Oracle 8i Installation CD provided to you is customized according to your database server’s specifications, the Relius products for which you are licensed, and size of your client base. This CD can only be obtained through Relius Administration Technology Support.

Single-User systems need to ensure that Personal Oracle 7 is installed before running this upgrade. Currently, the only workable solution for Single-User systems is Personal Oracle 7. The database upgrade scripts will succeed when run against Personal Oracle 7 databases.

2.14  Novell GroupWise Considerations

Users of Novell GroupWise may encounter problems while running Relius Administration 7.0. Specifically, GroupWise and Oracle are not compatible and will generate many errors that appear to be phantom in nature, possibly causing your workstation to lock up. To avoid these problems while running Relius Administration from your workstation, Sungard Corbel suggests closing Novell GroupWise.

3 Performing the Relius Administration 7.0 Installation

Pre-installation Notes:

a)  This installation is valid for Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation, and Windows 2000 Pro. All references to “Windows,” unless otherwise noted, are also valid for the above named operating systems.

b)  Run Scandisk or CHKDSK to check the integrity of your hard drive and have any problems resolved before installing this release.

c)  Be sure no screen saver will become active during the installation. Sungard Corbel discourages the use of screen savers whenever running Relius Administration or its Installer.

d)  Relius Administration 7.0 installs many of its support files in the “System” directory, normally C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM.

e)  The installation process takes approximately 1 to 2 hours to complete. The process of upgrading the database may take longer, depending on the amount of data in the database.

f)  Review the Relius Administration 7.0 system requirements located in Appendix A. Do not proceed with the upgrade if your environment does not meet the minimum system requirements.

g) Review the accompanying Relius Administration 7.0 Contraindications List. Do not proceed with the upgrade if any of the conditions listed are true.

h.) Ensure you have a valid backup and database export of your system before beginning the upgrade. Before beginning, you must READ and AGREE TO the following:

In performing this upgrade procedure, I, the software end user or individual intending to perform the software update, understand, acknowledge, and agree that this upgrade program will make substantial necessary changes to my database to make it compatible with version 7.0. There is a potential for the changes not to occur correctly, due to a variety of factors, many of which are out of the control of Sungard Corbel.

I understand that valid, restorable database backups are vital in order to recover from a situation where, for whatever reason, the database modification fails to occur successfully. Restorable backups are necessary to ensure that I can restore my system to its present Quantech 6.0 state. I agree that Sungard Corbel is not responsible for performing my data backup, nor is Sungard Corbel responsible for setting up, monitoring, or warranting proper operation, backup, or restorability of data from said backup system. I agree that I, the end user, and not Sungard Corbel, am fully responsible for the backup of data, for the integrity of backed-up data, and the restorability of backed-up data. I also agree that I am fully responsible for any consequences stemming from an inability to properly restore data, regardless of the reason or circumstance the restoration was made necessary originally, including software error or software fault attributable to the Sungard Corbel-provided software product or service.

I understand and agree to the above. Use of the password areyoubackedup? (one word, no spaces, include ? character, case sensitive) is required in order to extract the Relius Administration 7.0 database upgrade scripts, and my use of this password indicates my acceptance of the terms above. If I do not agree with the terms above, I will not perform this upgrade and will contact Sungard Corbel for assistance.

This message is not intended to alarm but rather to reinforce the importance of backing up Relius Administration plan data. If the upgrade is performed without valid backups AND something goes wrong during the upgrade process, there is potential to lose some or all of the Relius Administration plan data contained in the Oracle database.

3.1  Multi-User only: Ensure that your database server is Oracle 8i version 8.1.7 R3 on Windows 2000 Server.

3.2  Remove any icons or shortcuts from the StartUp folder. Additionally, programs that are set to launch when Windows is started can also be specified in C:\WINDOWS\WIN.INI. Please edit this file using Notepad. Temporarily remark the entries RUN= and LOAD= by placing a semi-colon (“;”) in front of the line (if programs are specified), then Save and Exit the WIN.INI file. Example of remark:
;RUN=EXAMPLE.EXE

3.3  Re-start the computer. Windows or other programs may have locked some files that need to be overwritten during the upgrade process.

3.4  Temporarily disable all virus protection.

3.5  If visible in your system tray (lower right corner by the clock), right click the SQL Server icon and choose Exit. /

3.6  Insert the “Relius Administration 7.0” CD into your CD-ROM drive. After a brief graphic introduction, the Installation Menu should start automatically. Start by clicking Begin Complete Installation. You must run the “complete” installation the first time on each workstation. Clicking Install Individual Component will allow users to re-install programs that were corrupted, not installed during the main installation, or deleted. This is for troubleshooting purposes. For more information, please contact Technology Support.
