Current Art & Design Studio Art & Art History Majors Scholarship Information & Application
The College of Creative Arts offers scholarships to currently enrolled, transfer, and incoming freshmen art majors.
The scholarships for Art and Design majors range from a waiver of tuition for one academic year (fall and spring semesters) to $500 awards and are granted based on academic record and artistic merit as determined by the WVU School of Art and Design Scholarship Committee. All past recipients must reapply if they wish to be considered for the upcoming academic year.
Deadline for application form is Monday, February 12, 2018.
Deadline for digital artwork and digital artist statement submissions is
Friday, February 16, 2018
Deadline for Art History majors writing sample and research statement in digital and hardcopy submissions is Monday, February 19, 2018.
Deadline for installation of two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional artwork, including hardcopy of artist statement, in assigned space is Monday, February 19, 2018.
Current Art and Design Majors:
- Must meet the minimum overall grade point average requirement (2.75 for students who have completed less than 28 credit hours and 3.00 for students who have completed more than 28 credit hours).
- Receiving other tuition waivers, Promise scholarships or West Virginia Grants, are still encouraged to apply for additional cash support. (Work-study students should note that grants might cause revision of total financial aid).
- Must be in good financial standing with the University (including all fees and payments assessed by the School, College and University) including lab fees, library, housing, parking,
etc.
Studio Art Majors
Submissions of two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork
- Students must submit the completed application form with an attached copy of your current unofficial transcript to the Art & Design office by Monday, February 12, 2018.
- Students submitting actual two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional artwork must hang their work and an artist statement in the space assigned by Monday, February 19, 2018 which remain on view for jury by the Faculty through Wednesday, February 21, 2018 to be considered by for the following academic year. Each student will be assigned a space in the art studios to exhibit a selected group of works from their portfolio that best represents their accomplishments. Students must set up their work in the space assigned.
- Students submitting digital files in addition to their two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork, must submit the digital files in advance to the Art & Design office no later than Friday, February 16, 2018.
- An artist statement discussing their work regarding their goals as an art major at WVU must be included in the display of work.
- Portfolios must be picked up on Thursday, February 22, 2018.
Submission of Digital Artwork
- Students must submit the completed application form with an attached copy of your current unofficial transcript to the Art & Design office by Monday, February 12, 2018.
- Students submitting digital work must send a digital copy of their artist statement to the Art & Design office prior to Friday, February 16, 2018.
- A digital artist statement discussing their work with reference to their goals as an art major at
WVU must be included in digital file of their work.
Art History Majors
- Students must submit the completed application form with an attached copy of your current unofficial transcript to the Art & Design office by Monday, February 12, 2018.
- Students must submit a research paper written for a recent art history course in both hardcopy and digital format to the Art & Design office by Monday, February 19, 2018.
- Must submit a research statement discussing their work with reference to their goals as an Art History major at WVU in both hardcopy and digital format to the Art & Design office by Friday, February 16, 2018.
