Course proposal and approval process

An Edgewood College Professional Development Course Proposal form is required for each PD offering at least three weeks prior to the course start date. The form can be obtained from and returned to the Continuing Education Coordinator.

All proposals for new courses are brought to the PD Review Committee for review and approval. The instructor will be notified of the Committee’s decision. If the course is approved, it will be assigned a PD course number, including the prefix “EDP”. Course approval letter, course application instructions, and grade/transcript instructions are then sent to the instructor.

Continuing a PD course

Instructors who plan to continue offering a previously approved PD course should contact one of the program coordinators at least three weeks prior to the course’s new start date. If the course content and credits remain the same, the continuing course maintains the original EDP course number.

Types of PD courses and credits

All PD courses are offered at the graduate level. Depending upon course rigor and content, PD courses may count towards a graduate degree (with advisor approval) or a licensing program in the School of Education. Other courses cannot count towards a degree. All PD courses can be used towards WDPI license renewal and as evidence towards Professional Development Plans (PDPs).

PD course instructors

PD courses generated from organizations or institutions outside of Edgewood College provide their own instructor. These courses are typically developed through school districts or professional organizations. (There are also PD courses generated by School of Education faculty who then serve as course instructors.)

All instructors responsible for PD courses and who are outside of Edgewood College must provide documentation of qualifications through a current resume.

PD course numbers and tuition

Most PD courses are identified by the registration code EDP.

The following course number ranges identify graduate credit status and tuition:

•  EDP 600-649: does not count toward a degree; tuition is $175 per credit;

•  EDP 650-699: does not count toward a degree; tuition is $225 per credit, instructor fee included;

•  EDP 700-799: can count toward a degree, upon advisor approval; tuition is $175 per credit.

Course application forms and payment

Upon course approval, the instructor receives the following documents via email:

• course confirmation letter

• instructions for student online application for professional development course

• instructions for request for grades and transcripts

To receive Edgewood College credit, participants have to complete an online application for each PD course. To complete the application, participants have to enter the Edgewood College course number and course title, the number of graduate credits, and the start and end dates. This information is provided by the course instructor. The deadline to apply is the evening of the day after the course is completed.

After online application submission, first-time PD participants receive a mailed letter with an Edgewood College student ID number that is necessary to create an Edgewood College email account. Notification of billing for PD courses occurs through Edgewood College email. Tuition charges can be viewed by logging on to Edgewood Express, the College’s online site accessible only to students, faculty and staff.

Edgewood College accepts personal checks, business checks, cash, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and VISA. Questions regarding payment can be directed to the Business Office at 608.663.2259.

Course grades and student transcripts

The Coordinator of Professional Development is the assigned faculty for all courses taught by instructors outside of Edgewood College. Outside instructors are responsible for submitting course grades by semester deadlines to the Coordinator of Professional Development.

The instructor’s course confirmation letter includes the date that grades are due. Approximate dates are:

• on or before December 20th for the Fall term

• on or before May 10th for the Spring term

• on or before August 15th for the Summer term

At the end of each semester, students can view their grades online; official transcripts are available upon request from the Registrar’s office.
