HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MS. SINDT’S CLASS

BASIC EXPECTATIONS

  1. Be polite and respectful
  2. Gather materials and be in your assigned seat BEFORE the bell rings.
  3. Copy down the To Do List for the day.
  4. Be prepared. Pay attention. Participate. Ask questions. Advocate for yourself.
  5. During class discussions, raise your hand. One person speaks at a time. Listen respectfully.
  6. During group/partner work, work and talk only with your group/partner. Be mature. You are not getting married; you are not raising children together. You are just working together for one day.
  7. If there is an announcement, be quiet. I need to hear it even if you don’t.
  8. The bell does not dismiss you. You may not leave the room untilI dismiss you.

TARDIES

  1. You are expected to be IN YOUR SEAT when the bell rings – no exceptions.
  2. After 3 tardies, you will contact your parents. Five tardies will automatically result in a referral.

FORGOT MATERIALS?

  1. IDONOT lend materials.

FINISHED AN ASSIGNMENT EARLY?

  1. Read a book. That is all.

ABSENT/MAKE-UP WORK

  1. Yes, we did something important while you were gone. Do not ask me this question.
  2. Absent work will be left for YOU to pick up in a class period folder, located by the door.
  3. Attach a Absent Work Form to your completed assignments and put them in the turn-in basket for your class period.Work without a form attached will be counted late.
  4. All assignments MUST be completed within 3 school days.

ABSENCES FOR SCHOOL-RELATED ACTIVITIES

  1. See me in advance for the work you will miss.
  2. Deadlines will not be extended. The late work policy will apply.

HALLWAY PASSES

  1. You are expected to take care of personal needs during the passing period.
  2. Hallway passes will only be signed for genuine emergencies.
  3. No hallway passes will be signed during the first or last 10 minutes of class.

OFF LIMIT AREAS TO STUDENTS

  1. Anything and everything that does not personally belong to you.
  2. ASK before borrowing any of my supplies.

CLASS PARTICIPATION & MY ROLE AS YOUR TEACHER

Participation in my class is REQUIRED. Refusal to participate and/or work on assignments in class will not be tolerated. I know you may dislike talking in class, especially in front of your peers, so I will be as fair as possible about whom I call upon and how many times I call on you. You may also dislike it when a teacher looks over your work or asks you questions as you are working, but that’s exactly what I’ll be doing, so use it to your advantage and ask for help so you can improve your grade.

Also, everyone (including me) spaces off sometimes or doesn’t know an answer. It’s no big deal. If this happens to you, be honest. Then respond in a way that shows you are accountable for your learning:

ORAGANIZATON

You are expected to keep all of your class materials organized at all times. In particular, note that assignments may be graded at any point during the six weeks. Do not throw any assignments away until your six weeks grade if final. Also, assignments are always due at the beginning of class. If they are not organized and ready to turn in, they are late. No exceptions.

JUST NOT GETTING IT? FEELING STUPID?

Just come see me. I don’t bite and, most of the time, I won’t make fun of you. Seriously though, next year everything you do counts. GPAs have a huge affect on your future. Figure it out this year. Get help.

WRITING & YOUR PRIVACY

I will never share your writing with anyone else without your permission. However, please know that because I am a teacher, I am considered a “mandatory reporter.” If you write about any of the following topics, I may be required by school policy, district policy, and/or state law to report what you wrote to a counselor, AP, principal, campus police, or other official.If you write about these topics, I assume you are asking for my help. If so, I will do everything I can to assist you and involve you in every step of the process.

FAILING GRADES

  1. You may improve/re-do any assignment on which you receive a failing grade (below 70). You MUST attend Excel to do this. YOU are responsible for taking advantage of this option. I will not come find you. All re-done work must be completed in a timely manner.
  2. Any re-done work is eligible for a high grade of 70. Depending on the on the effort put forth, and the quality and timeliness of the work, I may consider giving you more points.
  3. Per school policy, all students who fail a six-weeks will be assigned tutoring/intervention the following six weeks.

LATE WORK POLICY

  1. Always attach a Late/Absent Work Form to your assignment. Fill it out correctly.
  2. Five points will be deducted each day an assignment is late, up to 10 days. After 10 days, the highest possible grade is a 50.
  3. Only completed work will be accepted. You will be expected to redo work that is incomplete, sloppy, or that does not meet the minimum expectations of the assignment.

CHEATING

  1. 1st offense— zero for grade, alternative assignment, phone call home, teacher consequence
  2. 2nd offense – zero for grade,alternative assignment, phone call home, referral

TUTORING HOURS

  • Tuesdays during Excel (see me for a stamp)
  • Please note that I have a PAL class during Excel. I am NOT available any other day for any reason. Please find me another time to speak to me, drop off assignments, etc.
  • Life is sometimes unpredictable. If I’m not in my room when you arrive, please wait.
