Written Statement

Make an appropriate written statement of professional and academic accomplishments and objectives, in response to the following questions. Generally, responses that are very brief do not give us the information we need to evaluate a student’s preparedness for graduate studies. Our evaluation considers both the quality of the applicant’s writing and evidence of the applicant’s interest in and knowledge about teaching and learning.

  1. Tell us about your teaching experiences. What do you see as your strengths in teaching? What challenges in teaching lie ahead of you?
  1. Within the Literacy field, what do you most want to learn more about, and why?
  1. Tell us about yourself as a reader, as a writer, and a learner.
  1. In our on-campus and online courses, students are required to use digital media and technology to communicate their ideas. Please tell us about your experiences with technology in education, including any online courses you may have taken. What do you hope to learn in the program relative to technology and literacy?
  1. Is there anything else in your academic, work, or life experiences that you would like the department to take into consideration as they review your application?
