A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Kia Hampton for winning the 2011 Miss Kentucky USA Pageant.

WHEREAS, the Miss Kentucky USA Pageant brings together some of the best and brightest young women the Commonwealth has to offer. The winner competes in the Miss USA 2011 Pageant in Las Vegas in June; and

WHEREAS, on November 14, 2010, at the historic Louisville Memorial Auditorium, Kia Hampton was crowned 2011 Miss Kentucky USA. Competing against a field of 49 other candidates, the 21-year-old Ms. Hampton made her family and her hometown of Louisville proud; and

WHEREAS, beginning at the young age of five, Kia Hampton began singing and aspiring to become a professional singer/songwriter. Prior to winning the Miss Kentucky USA Pageant, she won the Crown of Miss I.B.P.O. Elk of the World for 2007 and 2008 in a beauty and talent competition in Jacksonville, Florida. She also won the 81st Kentucky State Association Beauty and Talent Pageant in Frankfort; and

WHEREAS, a young woman of many talents and gifts, Kia Hampton has received special recognition in many talent competitions. She won the 2006 Kentucky and Indiana Idol Contest, receiving a new car and an academic scholarship to Spalding University. In 2006, she performed the National Anthem at the opening of the Big East Men's Basketball Tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York. She also auditioned for the reality television show Welcome to Dreamland, which was picked up by Black Entertainment Television. Her ultimate dream is to have long-term success in the music and entertainment industries; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishment and character that Kia Hampton has displayed by winning the 2011 Miss Kentucky USA Pageant are deserving of respect and commendation;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate honors and congratulates Kia Hampton upon winning the 2011 Miss Kentucky USA Pageant, and wishes her continued success in all future endeavors.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Kia Hampton.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Gerald Neal for delivery to Kia Hampton.
