The SHRM New Mexico State Council and the SHRM New Mexico State Conference Committee invites HR practitioners and corporate partners to share knowledge and expertise with their colleagues at the SHRM NM State Conference on April 23rd-25th 2018.

Call for Presentations must be received no later than November 15,2017.

The 2018 SHRM New Mexico State Conference is a statewide collaboration sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) New Mexico State Council, in partnership with the Four Corners HR Association, the HR Management Association of New Mexico, the Northern New Mexico HR Association, and the Southern NM SHRM Chapter. The conference will be held at The Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque. We are planning on 500 attendees this year.

The theme of the 2018 New Mexico SHRM Conference is: Solving the People Puzzle-HR Brings It Together

Throughout the conference, we will focus on in depth education and strategies to provide to HR professionals and Business professionals. There will be several tracks from providing basic HR knowledge and skills to attendees at the Masters level. Presenters will be addressing the areas of HR Competency listed below:

  • Leadership & Navigation: improving negotiation effectiveness and leading change
  • Business Acumen: advancing business acumen and understanding organizational metrics
  • Ethical Practice: business ethics, dealing with unethical behavior or conflicts of interest
  • Critical Evaluation: critical thinking and data analysis
  • Global & Cultural Effectiveness: cross-cultural and cross-border issues, and global strategic leadership
  • Consultation: effective consultation and applying creative problem solving
  • Communication: communicating up, down, and across the organization and constructive feedback for development
  • Relationship Management: customer relationship management and managing internal and external relationships
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL

  • Submissions must follow the format provided. You can download the form at
  • Review for completeness, accuracy and sign and date form.
  • Include references from human resource professionals and previous evaluations.
  • Include a biographical sketch for yourself and any co-presenter.
  • Send the completed form no later than October 31, 2017.

Proposal Review. We strive to offer a balanced program of educational sessions by selecting proposals that best fit within the framework of the conference. Members of the Selection Committee will review all proposals. The conference program organizers will make final selections from those proposals accepted. Notification of acceptance will be sent no later than December 31, 2017.

SponsorshipOpportunities. Speakers often integrate their speaking engagement with a sponsorship. While the speaking opportunity is a way of making our members aware of your experience. Sponsorship is a way of getting the word out on your business. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please let us know when you return the CFP.

A Note Concerning Honoraria. SHRM is a non-profit organization and has a tradition of using educational conference sessions as a platform for innovation in the field of human resource management. We look for contributors who are willing to share their expertise WITHOUT expectation of payment in the spirit of networking, a purpose for which the Society was founded. Please note that selected speakers receive complimentary Conference attendance, hotel, and meals. Requests for transportation reimbursement will be considered on an individual basis.

Programming. The educational programs will be based upon the framework of the SHRM New Mexico State Conference theme, Solving the People Puzzleand reflect one of the five SHRM Core Competencies below. Conference tracks guide the programming framework. Alternative views and counterpoint issues are welcomed, particularly when lessons learned from first-hand experience are offered as models/examples. Concurrent sessions vary in length. We particularly are looking for speakers in the topics listed below, however, we welcome other relevant topics for review.

  • Business Acumen and Human Resources Strategy
  • Total Rewards
  • Employment Law and Legislation
  • Talent Acquisition and Retention
  • Personal and Leadership

Practical Application.Sessions conducted by practitioners that include practical, immediately applicable, human resource specific tools will be given preference. The SHRM New Mexico State Conference Committee seeks presentations that will provide our attendees with information that will improve their immediate and future effectiveness on the job.

Proven Speaking Ability. The SHRM New Mexico State Conference Committee seeks experienced presenters with proven speaking ability. Those with a successful track record of speaking and training at large, regional or national conferences or other public-speaking forums will be given preference.

Required Proof of Performance.

  • Evaluations – Evaluations that show your quality ratings and scores from previous speaking engagements.
  • References - References from Human Resources professionals that have seen you present.
  • URL’s/videos showing the presenters skills are required.

We expect presenters to:

  • Meet all deadlines;
  • Provide online materials by February 15, 2018 in a readable format;
  • Refrain from modifications to presentation after submission;
  • Honor SHRM New Mexico State Council’s commitment to provide education by not showcasing or promoting the speaker’s practice, services or products;
  • Not add a co-presenter or change the identity or number of presenters without permission from the SHRM New Mexico State Conference Committee;
  • Respect SHRM New Mexico State Council as the sponsoring organization with either positive or neutral comments from the platform.

In return, the SHRM New Mexico State Conference Committee will:

  • Provide a complimentary registration for the conference, including admission to the exposition, educational programs and social events.
  • Pay expenses (i.e., meals and SHRM New Mexico State Council-approved lodging for the conference). Please note that the SHRM New Mexico State Conference will consider requests for reimbursement for transportation costs on an individual basis
  • Grant you valuable professional exposure.
  • Provide you with your evaluation scores after the conference.
