5. Physical Education Department Changes – PE 0415

Elimination of PE 0415 (Individual Athletics for Seniors) after this academic year (2006-07)

Although many students like the class because of the schedule flexibility, there has been serious abuse of the course. The PE department will be strictly adhering to the printed requirements for course eligibility (see course description below) this year. Students need to come into the Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education Department to be registered and pick up the course syllabus and log sheet.
Also, Freshman…if you have room in your schedule during your first year it is important to try to fit in a PE class. It’s best to take as many of your co-curricular requirements in their first few years at Michigan Tech to prevent you from having to take them all in your senior year.

6. Seats Available in Swimming Classes for Fall 2006

There is room left in two swimming classes for fall:
Advanced Swimming (PE 0315)--students swim laps and learn to write their own work-outs. As long as they are comfortable swimming 800 yards they are welcome. Class meets T/Th at 2:35.
The combination class of Lifeguard First Aid (EH 2470) and Rescue Swimming (PE 1470). They earn 1 academic credit and one full unit of activity, leading to certification in Red Cross Lifeguard Training. They are required to swim 500 yards and should know front crawl and breaststroke.
