JOB SUMMARY

Role Title: Data Analyst

General Description
Responsible for data handling, data analysis, modelling, mapping and research across a range of subject areas, to support the generation and collation of operational intelligence to inform organisational decision making, risk management, resource planning, evaluation and performance monitoring processes.
Creation of detailed performance reports on a periodic basis, in line with time critical deadlines and working as part of a team.
Reporting to service managers and meetings, providing expert input on available data and its analysis for purposes including performance management, forecasting and target setting; resource management and deployment; scenario modelling and the creation and interpretation of charts, diagrams, reports and presentations.
Using specialist and bespoke software systems and applications, to collate and interpret data into meaningful, accurate and timely intelligence reports for consumption by a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
Specific Duties
·  Collate and analyse data using appropriate software systems, to inform strategic decision making.
·  Collate, organise and present data in appropriate formats.
·  Responsible for contributing to the production and development of strategic plans relating to risk management, resource deployment and service improvement and to monitor and report on progress.
·  Make use of Geographical Information Systems in the collation and presentation of data.
·  Interpret, communicate and present analytical findings in oral, graphical and written form, ensuring these meet user requirements.
·  Conduct research and produce reports and presentations of results.
·  Undertake modelling and develop predictive models; develop and present hypotheses based on intelligence; carry out sensitivity analysis to assess likely impact of changes; create and present scenario-based (‘what if?’) analyses.
·  Responsible for assisting further development of operational intelligence, to inform and enable performance improvement in fire prevention, emergency response and fire safety inspection and enforcement.
·  Incorporate quality assurance scrutiny in all areas of research and analysis and data management, to ensure validity and reliability (including establishing and documenting audit trails for research and analysis undertaken).
·  Attend meetings and represent the team as required.
·  Contribute, where possible, to the development of the teams’ resources.
·  Support and undertake other work as required.
Role Related Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential skills:
Relevant experience in the use of MS Office suite, particularly MS Excel and Word
Experience of processing data using Geographical Information System (GIS)
Minimum of 12 months’ experience of data analysis and data processing
Minimum of 12 months’ experience of data interpretation, through the creation of reports and visual representation of data (charts/tables)
Capacity to understand and competently use a variety of software applications
Sound understanding of statistics
Ability to assimilate and communicate technical data to a range of audiences, using verbal and written skills.
Ability to conduct research, collate and analyse data; interpret and present results accurately and effectively.
Ability to prioritise tasks and workload within a demanding and fast moving environment.
Must have good communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Must be able to work in a highly confidential environment.
Must be flexible in approach to work.to include:
·  occasional travel to meet the needs of the service
·  undertake further training and development as required
·  contribute to the development of other team members.
Preferred skills:
The competent use of MS Access and the application of Structured Query Language (SQL) for the retrieval and management of data.
Understanding of opportunities and capacity for digitization to improve service delivery and measure performance.
Knowledge or experience of software packages such as Tableau, Power Bi, Q-Gis
Experience of performance analysis in a public sector organisation.
