Hey Yo,

So this is the big one…The one that counts! This is your official 2012 LCGYF Youth Convention promotional packet. In this file, stapled pieces of paper, or possibly screen shot from a very techie friend of yours, you will find close to all you need to know about Convention this year. I say close because just like packing for camp, there is always some major piece that gets forgotten. Before we get into the specifics here are the basics...

Hotel: Country Inn & Suites

We have negotiated the two double bed rooms at the recently built Country Inn & Suites hotel down to $94 per room per night. With four people in a room this would come out to $47 plus tax for each person. We trust that you know your group more than we do, but ask that each room have at least one responsible counselor over the age of 18. Each youth group will be responsible for any damage in rooms and/or Convention Center caused by anyone in their group. Please book your rooms before November 2nd. If you are unsure of your total number, it may be wise to book an extra room you can cancel a few days before Convention.

Friday Night Activity: City-Wide Scavenger Hunt

In order to keep the game fair, specific details of this game will not be given until Friday night of Convention. For now, all you need to be prepared is to have someone with a smart phone, a GPS and Facebook account.

Saturday Morning

The theme this year is REACH- Bringing the healing power of Christ to those in need. We are going to be sharing this concept in many different ways. On Saturday morning we will have a few high school and college students share their mission trip stories. If you have a student who has been on a mission trip and is willing to share we may have a spot or two open. Following these stories, we will transition into our Operation Christmas Child Project. We have scheduled a young lady to share with our students what it is like to come full circle with OCC. She will give her testimony of when she received a shoe box one Christmas morning and how God has used her life and now allows her to give shoe boxes to those in need.

The OCC Project

This November we will have the opportunity to rally our students together as a state to bring God’s love and the Good News of Christ to children all over the world. During Free Time on Saturday we are asking our youth groups to participate in the Operation Christmas Child Project. When we dismiss Saturday morning we would like students to form groups of 3-4 and team up to pack a shoe box. After lunch, rather than just walking around the mall, we hope your group will be willing to stop by dollar stores, Wal-Mart and other stores to fill their boxes. It takes about $25-$30 to pack a shoe box. If every student could plan to spend $8-$10 on a shoebox we would have the potential to fill 150 boxes on Saturday! During the service on Saturday night we will collect the boxes near the stage and on Sunday morning have a special time of prayer for the young children who will receive these gifts.

To learn how to pack a box and find out more about Operation Christmas Child visit You can also visit this site to order free material such as promotional videos and other OCC related material. You may even want to do a separate fund raiser just for the OCC project.

Saturday Night Entertainment: The Bucket Boys

Not much I can say here. You can look up the videos on YouTube, but you may just want to trust us on this one so you don’t spoil the show.

Registration Information

In order to submit and receive our t-shirts on time we would like to have your registration forms returned by November 2nd. You can either email them to me at or mail them to 1815 Sam Houston Jones Pkwy, Lake Charles, LA70611. We will order a few extra shirts and sell them for $10.

Being youth leaders ourselves we fully understand the ‘I’m in, wait, I’m out, ok back in’ dance. “Wait, I’m out again… no really, I’m going… maybe.” However, there are still many deposits and expenses that must be paid before the event. Therefore, any student registered the day we will submit our T-Shirt order on November 5th will be required to pay $10 for the shirt regardless if he/she attends or not.In the same case, students who are added past the November 2nd deadline will not be guaranteed a shirt, but can still experience an awesome weekend at Convention!

For example, if Jessica signs up for Convention and her church sends in her name as part of their registration then remembers after November 5thher cousin is getting married the same weekend as Convention, LCGYF will charge her church $10 for her shirt, but not the complete $55 registration fee. A shirt for Jessica will be given to her church.

I’m not sure what important detail I’ve forgotten in this document, but I’m sure it’s in there someone. If you find it or happen to have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me maybe… 337.249.4595. And again my email is

I hope you guys have a great week and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
