John 1:4 – 9

We are in a sermon series journeying through the Gospel of John. John’s purpose in this Gospel was to record Jesus’ signs and miracles so that the reader would come to believe in Jesus as The Christ(John 20:31). ______

  • My purpose is to deepen our understanding of eternal life by revealing Jesus’ life, ministry, passion, and sacrifice. This sermon series and bible study is about getting to know Jesus better.

The Relevant Question “How does Jesus destroy death and darkness?”

1 – jesus ______

  • John affirms that True Life flows through Christ, the spiritual life of deliverance from the penalty of sin. ______

  • Light or spiritual illumination is often used in the Bible as an emblem of God. Darkness is commonly used to denote death, ignorance, sin, and separation from God. ______

  • Light and Darkness coexist in the world side by side. ______

  • In the struggle between Light and Darkness, Light is victorious. ______

  • John tells us that Light and Darkness currently exist together. ______

  • Men love Darkness because their deeds are evil. ______

  • In v6, The Gospel tells us that there was a man sent from God whose name was John. ______

  • The Greek word for witness is (martyria) martyr. ______

  • John the Baptist was not the Light, but came to bear witness or to give testimony to the Light.

  • John the Baptist’s goal was that all men might come to trust in Jesus. ______

  • In one Gospel, Jesus states > “I am the light of the world” – while in another Gospel Jesus tells His followers > “You are the light of the world.” ______

  • Being a Christian witness is not an easy thing to do. It certainly is not natural. ______

  • Jesus is the Light that dispels, defeats, and destroys all doubt. Christ gives Light to every man.

  • Being a witnessto the Light and the Truth as they destroy Death and Darkness is never easy.

  • John the Baptist was beheaded for bearing witness to the Truth. ______

  • Jesus destroyed Death and Darkness with the Light, the Witness, and the Truth. ______
