Robert Wood Medical School physician receives award of merit from occupational medical society
LOS ANGELES, CALIF., May 9, 2006—Michael Gochfeld, MD, PhD, is the recipient of the 2006 Health Achievement in Occupational Medicine Award from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), an international medical society of more than 5,000 physicians and other allied health professionals. The award was announced during the Opening Session of the 2006 American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC), the College’s annual spring meeting.
Created in 1948, this annual award recognizes an ACOEM member for a unique achievement in the field of occupational and environmental medicine. Dr. Gochfeld was recognized for his two-part series on the “History of Occupational Medicine” which appeared in the February 2005 Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the College’s peer-reviewed scientific journal. These two articles chronicle the development of occupational medicine and clarify the origin and nature of many of its challenges.
Dr. Gochfeld is Professor in the Department of Environmental and Community Medicine of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and in the Environmental and Occupational Health Division of the School of Public Health in Piscataway, N.J. His research interests focus on recognizing and preventing chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the home, community, and workplace environments.
Dr. Gochfield received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and his PhD from ?????????????? He is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine.
A member of ACOEM since 1981, Dr. Gochfeld was elevated to Fellowship in 1988. He has served ACOEM as chair of the Academic Occupational Medicine Section and member of the Council on Special Occupational Health Interests, and as post-graduate seminar chair for the State-of-the-Art Conference (SOTAC) the College’s annual fall meeting. He is a past president of the Occupational Medical Association of New Jersey.
Founded in 1916, ACOEM is an international medical society that provides leadership to promote the health and safety of workers, workplaces, and environments. The College is headquartered in the Chicagoland area.
