System-Wide Accessibility Weekly Update

For week of Sunday 8/22/10-Saturday 8/28/10

General:

·  Developed list of “Top 10” topics to cover with Department of Transportation (DOT) during upcoming tour of MBTA

·  Represented MBTA at monthly meeting of the Access Advisory Committee to the MBTA (AACT)

·  Met with Operations Support staff to discuss improving accessibility at Reduced Downtown Crossing Reduced Fare Office

·  Met with Legal Department to discuss using bus video footage in training classes

·  Met with Judge King to review accessibility concerns on Green Line platforms

·  Conference call with Executive Director of Boston Self Help to discuss providing training to THE RIDE on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

·  Participated in Webinar: Optimization Models for Prioritizing Bus Stop Facility Investments for Riders with Disabilities

·  Interviewed by Larry Cohen at Ringler Radio on topic of disability discrimination

·  Met with Operations to review Accessible Diversions policy

·  Attended MassDOT Roundtable prep meeting

·  Conducted photo shoot at Charlestown bus garage of boarding/exiting procedures for draft Access Guide

Design and Engineering:

·  Meetings

o  Attended Green Line Extension Draft Design Criteria meeting

Customer and Employee Complaints:

·  Tracked 11 customer complaints; 3 forwarded to Office of Diversity & Civil Rights (ODCR) for investigation

Internal Access Monitoring Program:

·  10 Monitors conducted 56 trips throughout all of fixed route system (48 Bus; 7 Subway; 1 Commuter Rail)

·  Provided 3.5 hrs of classroom training for new monitors

·  Continued revising the IAM handbook

·  Continued developing the Internal Monitor training guide

·  Reviewed 78 completed monitoring forms

·  Scanned 76 completed monitoring forms

·  Verified the content of 101 scanned monitoring forms

·  Created 2 reports consisting of results from the IAM program’s Q3-2010

·  Conducted 2 interviews for observer & tester monitor positions

Reduced Fare CharlieCard Program Activity

·  Issued 1174 reduced-fare CharlieCards:

o  773 Senior CharlieCards

o  366 Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCards

o  17 Blind Access CharlieCards

o  18 “THE RIDE” CharlieCards

·  Reviewed 279 Transportation Access Pass CharlieCard applications

·  Processed 179 account deposits for customers of the MBTA Paratransit program THE RIDE

·  Responded to 400 customer phone inquiries

·  Conducted outreach event at the Cambridge Senior Center

o  96 Senior CharlieCard and 2 TAP CharlieCard customers served
