- Theme – Food Pyramid

- Grade – 1st

- Lesson Objective - The students will be able to understand the food pyramid by having them complete the worksheets and web site activities so that they will be able to connect the food they are eating to the food pyramid.

- Instructional Techniques - The students will work individual if there are enough computers for each student to do so, it there isn’t enough computers then we will have them work in groups of 2 or 3.

- Instructional Material – Worksheet, Computer, Access to internet/website and website for beginning activity (

- Theoretical Perspective- This information is important for students of all ages to learn because it makes the students aware of what is going into their bodies. Additionally it helps them better understand what healthy eating is so they can take personal responsibilities for what they are eating, because they now have the knowledge to do so.

3.2 Use the USDA Food Guide Pyramid and its three major concepts of balance, variety, and moderation to plan healthy meals and snacks

Procedures

- A: Introductory Activity:Before the students start the web site work they will be asked to work in the groups, we have assined, and take out their food pyramid cards. The students should raise there hand when they done with the worksheet and a teacher will come over and tell them if they are ok to go on to the website work.

- B. Step by Step-

1. After the students complete the food pyramide cards activity in small groups they will be set up at a computer and handed a worksheet.

2. As a team they will complete the worksheet in there small groups to show they made it throught the website.

3. After the students are done with the work sheet and the website they will be asked to reture to their desks and do indepentent reading on the food pyramid.

- C. Closure

We would countinue to work on the food pyramid in the following weeks to ensure that all the students have a full understanding of the information. There will be many activitys and many oputunitiys for the students to show their knowledge.

-D. Adaptation for other learners-

To help some students there will be changed made to the WORKSHEET such as instead of writing the answer in the students will be asked to circle the correct answer. We could also place studnets with lower abilities in a group with students who have higher abilities.

- E: Homework: The students should write down everything they eat when after they leave school for the day. Any snacks, dinner, drinks so that we can use that list in tomorrows activitys.

Evaluations

- A. How/ when will you determine if you have met your objectives?

The students will be able to answer question and have a basic understanding of the food pyramid and how the food pyramid works. The students will also be able to know where foods they enjoy eating would fall on the food pyramid.
