School of Public Health Student Poster Day 2015
Poster Creation and Printing Instructions
Posters should be sized no larger than 34 inches in height by 40 inches in width. All posters should be printed with a minimum of ½” margins all around to prevent the printed page from being cut off. It is recommended that posters have a white or light background color. Dark backgrounds typically do not print well at most locations. The School of Public Health, Cancer Research Center and the Wadsworth Center do not have poster printing services available. Poster printing is to be completed by the individual. Some locations utilized in the past include:

Saving and Submitting to Printing Company:
The final poster submission to both locations should be in PDF format, with all fonts included (File > Save As > PDF). Use the “Press Quality” setting in PDF.
Microsoft PowerPoint 2010:
Design > Page Setup > Custom > width and height Set page size to 40” x 34”.
File > Help > Options > Advanced > Image Size and Quality. Select the file you would like to turn off picture compression for. Select the “Do not compress images in file” check box.
Microsoft PowerPoint 2007:
File > Page Setup > Custom > width and height. Set page size to 40” x 34”.
When you insert the first image into the PowerPoint slide, you'll see "Compression settings" as an option under the insert tab. In these options, you'll want to uncheck automatic compression and then make sure 'Print' is selected as the Target Output.
We cannot express the following advice strongly enough. When creating your poster, DO NOT use any of the Template files provided with PowerPoint. Part of the reason is obvious at first sight– most of them have heavy, colorful backgrounds which will not print clearly for you! But less obviously, these files can take several times longer to print and they are far more likely to fail altogether—sometimes even when the PDF version looks absolutely fine.
Adobe Illustrator:
Make the poster in the CYMK color space (File > Document Color Mode > CMYK).
Final submission must be saved as a PDF.
