UNIT 1 INTRODUCTION HANDOUT

This unit is an introduction to the world geographically and culturally. It will also analyze our relation to the world as we know it by reflectively analyzing our values and personalities to help answer the question “who am I as an individual and member of a local and global community?” This will provide an important course-wide foundation for your final exam in the following ways:

1)Identify one’s own values to better understand your role in the community

2)Identify important cultural and geographic concepts that will be applied to all later units

Unit 1 LEARNING OBJECTIVES – This is what I use to make my TESTS!!!

1)Identify and apply rules & skills necessary to be successful in this course including active listening techniques, “I” statements, and avoiding communication roadblocks.

2)Students will apply selected activities from class and homework to demonstrate an increased self-awareness & understanding of “Who Am I”?

3)(Biggest one for formal test) For areas you become familiar within this unit, including presentations from your classmates, give detailed examples of the

  1. 7 elements of culture
  2. 5 themes of geography
  3. 4 sources of cultural change

4)Identify and apply properly all map components and properly locate European countries presented on during Heritage presentations.

5)Identify key terms to other learning objectives whenever and wherever appropriate to demonstrate learning or give examples of concepts.
