·  Philosophy of Activities

o  Choose activities that will maximize student practice opportunities and meet national grade level outcomes.

·  National Outcomes

o  Standard 1

§  E19 – Manipulative – Passing & Receiving with Feet

§  E20 – Manipulative – Dribbling in Combination

§  E21 – Manipulative – Kicking

o  Standard 3

§  E2 – Engages in Physical Acitivity

o  Standard 4 – Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others

Dribbling Activities

·  Elimination Tag

o  Taggers dribble a different type of ball

o  If your soccer ball is touched by a tagger’s ball or it goes outside the boundary, you put the soccer ball away and become a tagger

o  Game is over when all have been tagged

o  S1.E18, S1.E20, S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  Blaster Tag

o  Every time the music stops, call out a color to be taggers

o  If you have that color of ball, you are a tagger and try to throw your ball at a dribblers ball

o  If their ball it hit, they must do five toe taps to get back in the game

o  S1.E18, S1.E20, S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  Knockout

o  Everyone dribbles a soccer ball

o  If your ball gets kicked into the blue, you must do five toe taps or another exercise before re-entering

o  S1.E18, S1.E20, S4

·  Mexican Hat Dance

o  Three toe taps/two claps with the music

o  Skip around soccer ball during chorus

o  S2.E1, S4

Kicking Activities

·  Spider Eggs (K-1)

o  The soccer balls are spider eggs

o  When the music is off, tip toe around them without touching them so that they don’t hatch

o  As soon as the music starts, kick any and all soccer balls as fast as possible

o  Soccer balls that aren’t rolling will hatch spiders

o  When the music stops again, everyone tip toes

o  S1.E21, S4

·  Kickball 500

o  Each student places a soccer ball a short distance away from a wall

o  Try to kick the ball off the wall and catch it before it hits the ground

o  100 points for each catch

o  50 points for catching a ball that has bounced once

o  Give the teacher a high-five when you have scored 500 points

o  S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  Pepper

o  Have students in small groups of 2-4

o  One student rolls to ball to the kicker and the others stand shoulder to shoulder with the roller

o  If the kicker is able to kick the ball back to a fielder, they get to stay put

o  If they kick it out of reach of one of the fielders, a new person becomes the kicker

o  S2.E5, S4

·  Partner Kickball

o  The roller is in the middle

o  After kicking, they run to touch the opposite wall and try to get back to ‘home’ before the kicker does

o  S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  Continuous Kickball

o  Have 4 soccer balls in the basket in the middle of the gym. Modify the number of balls as necessary.

o  Each person on the kicking team gets to kick and run around the cones as fast as they can

o  The fielding team must get the balls in the basket as fast as they can

o  If the teacher reaches in the basket and it is empty, the kicking team gets a point

o  If the last batter gets back to the wall before the fielding team gets all soccer balls back in the basket, the kicking team gets 5 extra points

o  S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  3 Wall Kickball

o  Have two teams each wearing jerseys

o  One team will start as the kickers, the other as the fielders

o  Each person on the kicking team will kick their soccer ball off the deck tennis ring or poly spot on “Go!” then proceed to run laps around four cones on their side of the gym. Each lap per person is a point.

o  The fielding team must put all of the kicked soccer balls on deck tennis rings on their side of the gym, then touch all three walls on their side of the gym and stand inside the center circle of the gym

o  S1.E21, S2.E5, S4

·  Never-Ending Soccer

o  Have two teams each wearing jerseys

o  The blue team defends and stands between the blue cones on their end and same with the red team

o  Decide how many from each team you want to have out as forwards who are attempting to score goals as well as how many soccer balls you want to use. I usually play 5 v. 5 with 5 soccer balls

o  The rest of the team must stay on the line between the cones as goalies

o  When a forward either scores a goal, touches the ball with their arm or hand, or gets tired, they must high-five the goalie in the front of the goalie line

o  After high-fiving them, they go to the back of the goalie line

o  If a goalie catches/stops a ball, they need to throw it in with two-hands over their head. If playing outside, I would let them punt it back in.

o  S1.E18, S1.E19, S1.E20, S1.E21, S2.E5, S4
